Hi,

I'm trying to convert a Russian Sovremenny Destroyer at 1/700 scale to the PLA Version of the Sovremenny.
Is the PLA Sovremmeny hull longer than the Russian Version?

Is there any plans available?

thanks in advance

I suspect PLAN is really in no hurry to go blue water, except perhaps their nuke subs. They seem to adopt a path where their systems are more specialized rather than multi-role and seem to be comfortable with their SSKs playing the main ASW role. Maybe only when their carrier sails will they put more effort into surface ASW.
The PLAN would have trouble fighting against local navies from Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. They just don't have enough ships. So building an ocean-going Navy would be a waste of effort because they'd just get squashed by the US Navy if they managed to get past their neighbors.

I think 136 and 137 are exactly the same as USSR's. 138 and 139 changed a lot that I don't think you can make one from your kits. For example, the main gun in the rear is canceled and the superstructure is enlarged a lot.

They have to start somewhere. How do you know that PRC-US naval war will ever happen? Actualy, to prevent it, they better have a strong bluewater navy- as Roman saying goes: if you want peace, be ready for war!

Pace thanked the Chinese personnel for their work. He said their efforts are helping to bring China and the United States closer together. Pace told the airmen that the United States and China have many common national interests and that it is in Asia’s and the world’s interest for the two countries to cooperate.

More Sovremenny ? I think today is Hu's last day in Moscow, plenty of trade deals, an 09 joint mission to Mars. But no Sovremenny so far.
But then again, unlikely they announce arms deal on such a high profile trip to avoid too much attention.

I think this is possible. Because Russia does not have plan to build big ships, yet their institutes may developed new navy equipment and wanna make money. While China needs new ships badly, so it's good for both sides if China bought destroyer from Russia. We already saw big changes in 138 and 139, there might be more. But I don't believe the lada sub part. Kilo is good enough and China wouldn't want too many types of subs to create logistic problems.

Again, why do you people want Sovs so badly? Why? Why?

I have to keep on asking, because it makes about as much sense as building more 051Cs in its current configuration.

Also, no more Kilos please. This is not the 70s anymore and the kilos are more than 1 order of magnitude more noisy than the leading conventional subs of the world. PLAN has wasted enough time with Improved ming, song and Yuan class. It needs to move into the 21st century with its next sub design.

I certainly am not advocating more Sovs one way or the other. :) But if the Russians are desperate for some cash & willing to offer a good deal, in terms of price & tech. Maybe it's not a bad idea to buy a few more, which btw I agree is more rumour than fact now.
Provided of course such purchases don't distract resources from indigenous R&D.

Well I think it's rumor too, but I also think it's possible. I guess tphuang means 052B? cause 051C is mainly for long range air defence I think. China needs to expand her fleet badly, that's the reality. So I think something like Sov that has great SSM ability while able to protect itself against air attack is a good choice. The 3 classes of new destoyers need further test and can not be commisioned in a large number very soon. Anyway, if China is not capable to expand her fleet at the speed of her wish by home production, Sov is the only and a reasonable choice.

For kilo, it's still the best choice available, given China can't produce her own sub in a satisfactory speed.

My point is, China is preparing for a war that may happen anytime, not a war 20 years later. She wants a continuous lift of superiority against taiwan, and try to close the gap against Japan. PLAN has so many obsolete vessels anyway, the Russian stuff are much better after all. Money is not a problem for China, time is. She wouldn't like to sit there and wait for new ships.

BTW, China and Russia just signed a economic deal in Moskow mainly on trading, no military stuff mensioned.
