  • One analyst says that Beijing is worried about mainland citizens believing that protests can achieve results
That "analyst" is an archetype of how Westerners misunderstand China. Beijing wants to keep it low profile so anger doesn't boil over in the mainland with people demanding that Beijing throw away its strategy and murder these criminals with the military or start a civilian march over to kill these rioters. To think that someone who destroyed public property and attacked civilians and police would get anything to go their way makes people angry, but for now, Beijing deems it a necessary evil in its plan to deal with Hong Kong.

That article is so wrong it's just hilarious. I give it 5 Gordon Changs!

Hong Kong might fail but the PRC does not. If it escalates to a point when Beijing actually steps in, these kids will be finished. This can only end will democracy gone from China and Hong Kong fully under the PRC. The only thing that is up to the rioters is how ugly it has to get before we get there, and whether we get there next week or in 2047.

This is obviously a politically charged topic, and this thread has continued to exist.

If people want this thread to continue, please avoid using emotionally charged terms for different groups that are designed to convey "good guys" or "bad guys".

Media might write articles along those lines and they might be posted here, but that doesn't mean users here should go out of their way to provoke each other.

And it goes without saying that bringing in other off topic posts is not allowed.

Could the moderators remove the off topic references to kashmir ?
The topic is the people's uprising in hong kong, not all the worlds troubled areas.
And India has recently taken steps to bring kashmiris to equal footing with the rest of the country. Also Kashmir has had scores of elections in the last 70 years, not like hong kong at all.
India will hold the referendum in kashmir as soon as Pakistan and China vacate the illegally occupied areas, as given in the UN resolutions. Read them, just don't blindly parrot propaganda lines.

Oh you want the Kashmir topic to be locked out so other people can't talk about it after you get your last word in via this post? LOLOL Not as slick (or effective) a strategy as you thought.

China's territory only expands; it does not decrease so you'll be waiting a long time but meanwhile, you have a perfect excuse not to hold the referendum!

Hmmm another comparison! Hong Kong has no elections, and is a financial hub. Kashmir has had scores of elections and is known for being a dangerous slum. Seems that just like the China and India comparison, democracy loses again! Tsk tsk, keep it on the altar cus your master left it to you.

You read and enjoyed those posts, right? Yeah, they can be deleted now as long as you read them. Funny it makes you that uncomfortable that the truth is written here LOL.

Compare and contrast and context are integral parts of analysis. Though when someone wants to apply double standards or muddy the waters of course they want to hide behind censoring comparisons and isolating events from wider contexts.

Really good one, the joke on the Kashmiris.
Hong Kong never had an election since or before August 1842, so what gives?

Has this firebomb attack on Jimmy Lai been posted. He was firebombed the last umbrella revolution. He had someone already ready standing recording the front of his house when all of the sudden a van drives up, a guy gets out with a fire bomb and throws it on his driveway and not his house. He staged the whole thing. Is he reusing the same footage to say it was today?
