DPRK nukes should be more than enough to neutralize both Japan and South Korea as US proxy allies against China. That means the US has to confront North Korea with nukes instead of China meanwhile the entire world stock market will tumble (hurt the US the most) each day. Even without nukes being used from either side with just conventional weapons would cause a lot of harm and distrust to both South Koreans and Japanese people whom sees that their alliance with the US has become problematic and dangerous.

In an all out conflict the North Koreans would take the opportunity to finish off the South and all US bases within the vicinity of China would be hit followed by Japan. China may not survive a conflict with the US but who is to know a weaken US may not get hit by the Russians doing an underbelly punch.

Short of nuclear war China's arsenal of modern weapons are enough to cause major damage to both Japan and the US without even bringing out their trump card (DF-21 and DF-26 ASBM) to bring both side to the negotiation table. After that it's rebuilding time. Who's in better position to rebuild whatever military hardware and lives they lost without breaking the bank and their regime? The PRC of course. China didn't need their tax payers to bail them out of another costly war like a certain particular regime changer nation did they or worse borrowing from OUTSIDE the country?

For the first time in it's history the US mainland unlike the two world wars will get hurt this time and will know how it feels to suffer the horrors of war.

ok i think you guys really need to calm down a bit. there is NOT going to be a Sino-US war anytime soon. it's just political grandstanding by a new President (who have been known to have a 'big mouth') and his brand new staff. words are one thing, but actions is what counts. nothing much has changed yet.

Nuclear war, if happeneed , will bring many uncertainities,
1. who is the enemy, and who is the strategically friendly.
2. will it be the end of civilization? or the end of human being?
3. But gold will be very valuable, and money is worthless ( not even know if the the central bank that print the money still exist or not )
4. Chinese money in the us treasury won't be recognized, chinese investment in fierce countries will be nationalized, and vice versa.
and still a lot of possibilities that we can't predict now.
Hope Trump can fulfill his jargon " make America great again " not " make America ( and the world ) perish forever "

When you have a bunch of thugs who think they can have their way just because they can, I have real concern for the region I live in.

Political grandstanding also sets the stage for controversial and/or risky actions. While I agree that no relevant action action has taken place yet that doesn't mean it's not coming. Official statements and unofficial comments by people who hold or are about to hold office are actions that should be taken seriously.

Trump's a trumpeter playing hardball, it's also a fair reminder that the US possesses military superiority all the way up the escalation chain including at the nuclear level. Especially when the latest raft of technologies are widely (or even more widely) deployed from stealth aircraft and SSNs to BMD, railguns, and lasers.
