Gosh, I just heard about this Anne Hathaway "Godzilla" movie just a couple days ago. I wonder if the Marvin Gaye estate lawsuit against Robin Thicke and Pharrel opened up a Pandora's Box. That would be interesting if there's a lawsuit over Star Wars since it was said to be inspired by Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress.

I did watch Fury Road yesterday (2D) and I was very pleased. There were couple scenes what were put there just so it would look cool (stuff flying towards audience) in 3D but when you watch it in 2D it's clearly very gimmicky and doesn't serve any real purpose.

Certainly better than most modern action movies and soundtrack was really good... 4/5.

Blake Lively on her first China-U.S. sci-fi franchise

[Published on May 13, 2015

China and Hollywood co-producing movies is becoming a bit of a trend nowadays. And the movie “Log Out” — set in near-future China — is the opening installment of the first-ever sci-fi franchise involving the pair. The cast includes American stars Blake Lively and Adrien Brody, as well as Chinese actor Shawn Dou. CCTV News reporter Fei Ye had a chance to sit down with Lively, who talked about her experiences working on her first Chinese film.]

Lost Chinese Silent Film “The Cave of the Silken Web” Found and Returned

[Lost Chinese Silent Film “The Cave of the Silken Web” Found and Returned

An old silent film from the Golden Age of Chinese cinema made the headlines last April when a nitrocellulose print of The Cave of Silken Web (1927) was finally returned to China from Norway. The film, long thought lost to the times, was discovered in Norway’s national library in 2011. The discovery of this rare film is a cause for celebration for many, as few Chinese films produced from the 1920’s to the 1930’s have survived the Cultural Revolution, leaving a dearth of films from what was considered the Golden Age of Chinese film.

The Cave of Silken Web (also called The Cave of the Spiderwomen and Pan si dong) had a Norwegian premiere in Oslo on January 1929, showcasing the influence and growth of the film industry in China during this era. Given the current tensions between Norway and China, due to the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to imprisoned activist Liu Xiaobo in 2010, the return of the film can be seen as a move to improve diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Running a little over an hour, the film, directed by Dan Duyu, is the first known cinematic adaptation of the Chinese classic novel Journey to the West. The silent feature adapts one of the more well-known episodes of the classic epic, where the gluttonous Pigsy and the gullible Monk Xuanzang are lured into a trap by a group of seemingly beautiful maidens who actually turn out to be cave-dwelling, hungry spider-demons with a palette for human flesh. The film has a rather slow start but once Pigsy and the Monkey King enter the picture, the film picks up and becomes a fun and fast-paced flick.

I would recommend the following PBS special to anyone.

It is a deeply moving story about a Chinese family (and in particularly their little daughter) caught up in the post world War II years...years of faithful service to the party...purging during the Cultural revolution...and ultrimate survival as a family.

VERY good and revealing...and moving.

Don't! Episode 1, the main character in the show, a sniper, shot a concrete beam 3 times to get to a bad guy hiding behind the beam while holding a hostage. While he's calmly and, might I add, slowly drilling a hole into the concrete beam with his bullets to get to the bad guy, the bad guy just stands there and keeps yelling about shooting the hostage. The sniper comes out like he has done something heroic... When you try to wash your eyes with bleach after watching it, I'm going to say "I told you so" so loud...:D:p:cool:

LOL! Don't listen to him! Its not that bad! Its entertaining in the 80's sort of way... think of Rambo, Red Dawn, all those over-the-top 80s movie. It is extremely corny, plot is bizzare, acting is wooden, but at least the fight scenes are decent (GUN-fu!) and you get to see WZ-10 and WZ-19 in this movie.

For those who wants to "check it out" :

These superhero movies have been criticized for plaguing the movie industry of nothing else. Well one thing that it's done is limit Damon Lindelof from plaguing Hollywood further. It's not all his fault because again the most likely culprit has been JJ Abrams and since he's been lucky to be higher up in the food chain, the Hollywood heat unnaturally doesn't climb that high. And since Abrams comes from a Hollywood family, that certainly helps also. Damon Lidelof, Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzman are disciples of their master, JJ Abrams, and they were all the "go-to" guys for any tent pole project in Hollywood. Orci and Kurtzman have already moved aside. Lidelof looks to be following. Now the master better have fingers crossed like everyone else for Star Wars. People are excited flying high but that just means the harder the fall if it turns into a nightmare. Like the article mentions... skilled at building interest but...
