no, I have seen a lot of planes in my life and I have never seen one where you can fold a pitot tube etc. The thing you see that looks like a 'folded' down tube is nothing more than a hanging ribbon plug.

Actually having a hinged nose cone has been done and is quite practical, the radar needs service periodically any way. brat

The old J-6 fighter jets do have foldable pitot tube. It is possible for J-15, and a space saving for a tight aircraft hangar in Liaoning.

Regarding elevator, I wonder if they can weld a metre or two of metal plates on the edge of elevator, and bend it slightly upward as insurance to mishaps.

according to JDW, the hangar is 29.4 meter width, and 7.5 meter height.
flight deck 46~52 meter width.
any data from older USN carrier which comparable to plan CV project?

true however that one was design to be foldable right from the start unlike the Flanker/J15. The one in the video protrudes from the nose. The J-6's attached to the body of the plane. Not the same mechanics. I guess I should clarify that I have never seen a foldable pitot tube that comes out from the nose cone.

Like what AFB said folding nose cone is relatively common in many fighters BUT not the the tubes themselves when it potrudes out the tip of the nose cone.

The Su-33/J-15 pitot tube has to be folded or the aircraft wouldn't fit on the elevator. I have a feeling that the engineering team in charged of Kuznetsov's elevator forgot to take in account of the pitot tube when they designed the elevator. The clearance would have been perfect otherwise. :p

Either that or when Kunetsov class was conceived they may not be thinking of Flanker variants flying off of her...at that time maybe they though Mig-29 was going to be the navalized bird for the then Soviet Navy. The USSR was militarily very aggressive when the Kunetsov class was conceived, designed and built. For all we know they may have fighter designs on the board for naval aviation before it came all crashing down in the late 1980s for them.

the size of the CV likely something between Lioaning and forrestal class.
consider her deck width is only 52 m.compare with forrestal class cv deck width of 72.5m.it is more likely we are looking at LPD rather than carrier.

Can you elaborate a little more on that?

Oh... I see you changed your comments...

In regards to the length concern with the carrier elevators. If the J-31 was to be the PLAN carrier fighter it would fit comfortably into the elevators right? Considering J-15 is ~22m in length it barely fits onto the elevator, and J-31 estimated length is ~17m. That's plenty of room for J-31 to operate on the Liaoning.

Since the J-15 is very large, it was estimated by this forum that maximum of only 30 could be fit into the carrier. If it was to say be equipped with J-31 wouldn't that squeeze a few more in since its significantly smaller?
