yes its a simplification, that 20% might account for a digit or two of decibels in LO measurement, and Americans went to great lengths pursuing it

about tail aspect, redesign will depend on the new engine, how increased thrust and different control will affect flight, how TVC affect flight laws, elimination of ventral stabs(probably?)

and WS-15 cant be at the same size with AL-31/WS-10 can it?
Some have pointed out that the engine might be slightly bigger given the less than continuous geometry of the nozzle and the body, but we'll see. I think i.e. said that the ventral stabs are here to stay. I trust his judgement since he's actually a professional.

What's The Deal?

Actually I don't know !!?? These and similar photos were posted already and most rumours tend to suggest this is the second prototype (2003) or simply a mock-up ... or the static test specimen (2002).

But I really don't know.

The static test airframe should still be rigged to a airframe stress simulator having the living daylights shaken out of it.

As for lighting, well I do not remember ever seeing any sort of lighting that can make a dark material look many shades lighter in nature.

They either re-painted it, or this is another airframe, either a mock up, or another flying prototype.

We should know more soon.
