Japan arrests Chinese fishing boat captains (Aug 2011)

LOL POLICE BRUTALITY. Well said well said.

Actually what I was referring to was how a lot has changed in terms of Sino-Japanese bilateral relationship in these 2 years. Japan's cabinets, particularly border services, law enforcement, and ministry of defense, had taken a much stronger and vocal hostility towards PRC. One recent article came out with the defense minister accusing China of being assertive. This word, if I'm not mistaken, seemed to be the first time to be used by Japan towards China, and this word...we all know whose favorite vocabulary it is.

I did read another article referring to how Japan wants to pursue closer bilateral relationship with China only in terms of economic, while everything else is associating themselves closer with the US. Of course this would almost seem like a practical pursuit of objectives for Japan, but Tokyo is forgetting that whatever they do, they are still in the East, next to SK, NK, PRC, and Russia. Doing what they are doing will serve them no true long-term benefits when it pissed off its neighbors in the entire geopolitical region. Assuming with things moving along, all of Japan's neighbors (Russia, China, and depending on the Koreans if their conflicts were settled), will develop stronger cultural influence and reduce American's, and Japan will be the only one still hugging the US in the E.Asia region. Japan doesn't even seemed to realize, that by ruining its bilateral relationships with its neighbors by associating itself with the US, it is actually doing more harm and hindrance for whichever goals they want to achieve in the long-term, such as earning the trust and recognitions from Asian that Japan is a greater power; reviving its economy, etc.

All the increase of Japanese aggressiveness coincides with US's agenda of returning to Aisa. Japan has to go aggressive towards China when its master told it to.

I suppose it depends if they were really fishing boats.
Not to sure what you are trying to infer here.

Remember the Impeccable within 75 km of Hainan? Yeah foreign militaries can conduct activities "in waters beyond the territorial sea of another state without prior notification or consent"

I wonder If China has asked for Korea's permission or the very least notify her aboutl the Varyag's impending excursion in the Yellow sea and beyond?

I believe he was mocking the notion by using the typical terms the US and Japan consistently spout when similar incidents occur to China, and that the US is not the world's policeman due to overarching bias #irony.

Lulzy.

Thank you .

Some body finally had a sense of humour!

I read (and care to respond) to the source you provide, and would like to put it aside when after I admire and salute to the resolve of the Aussies.

It is open sea (ocean), and I didn't read the Aussies need permission from anyone to carry out that chase, either. In the scenario Varyag set sails, she either stays in terrirory water, or out at open seas too - and when I say "open seas", I am refering to the same standard that US navy have in mind when they conducting anything.

If you try to imply that USS Impeccable has suffered "double standard" (that's the funny part, everyone!) from Chinese counterpart, well there's the game - It was fishboat who dislike the Impeccable and take matters to their own; it was US destoryer who breaks the party later and escort the spy ship out to the high oceans; while take notice of following:

1. By "traditional" difination, where Impeccable operates, is PR.China's EEZ.
2. By "long lasting" claims of both PRC and ROC, where Impeccable operates, is China's sovereignty water.

It was China's (both navy and civil law enforcement) RESPECT, if not "accumulation of anger", that NOT ENGAGE USS Impeccable, for it raises star and strip flag.

- We would happily "hand in hand", and talking about "China's responsibility to the International community", if the US shows same amount of RESPECT, when China sends a same set up of ship like Impeccable, 75km off coast of US navy base, and send destoryer to escort it when the day gose dark.

Having said above, we can now turn the attention to the current thread topic, and think about how IMPOSSIBLE, for the Russians (I don't know about SK) to "think no problem" for japan to preserve its own law, at russian doorstep, just so because to avoid the destructive power Chinese NETIZENS are going to bring along...

Personaly, I think those Chinese fishers are screwed this time, too ambitious they are to sail themselves into the chaotic sea of japan for business conduct. - And that's all China's stake so far.

When was the last time Japanese or American ships fished in the Chinese EEZ and their respective countries said there was nothing wrong with this?

If it happens in undisputed water, what is the big deal?! Fishing intrusions happen all the time and nobody reports.

Now someone has called in Reuter and made a lot of noise worldwide. That is a calculated move, and is antagonizing China.

This is just the western media hyping up small incidents involving PRC and its neighbours (in this case Japan). Isn't western media outlets supposed to be taken with a huge pitch of salt when it comes to reporting on PRC anyway?

Dont Kid yourself. Look at all the trouble people go to over the Patogonian Toothfish Viarsa Incident Post20) for example

Get yourself educated and don't live in your imagination. Viarsa Incident is famous because its unusually long chase. Fishing intrusion happens all the time and world media simply doesn't report.

Just 5 days ago Japan arrested the captain of a Korean fishing ship and nothing made into western media.

One month ago Japan arrested he captain of a Taiwanese fishing ship and nothing made into western media.

Good for Japan, give China a taste of its own medicine. Funny how even now Japan still humiliating China and there is nothing China could do about it.
