The overwhelming premise typical ofAmerican advertising and movie mongols is simply that the average audience possess the intelluctual experience of a 12 year old. Those who master this simple concepts wins big bucks, those who fail to understand simply gets washed away.

But all the classic movies that are loved by all people and endured the test of time are the ones that are deep and meaningful and highly intelligent.

I live in NZ, the movie (short version) just released for Cinema, the review of the movie is highly recommended here in NZ ... I will no bother to watch it as short version is not as good as a full version. I just bought full version (2 DVDs) from Amazon.com, will get in sometime in early Nov09 .. still cheaper than going to cinema for my family (3 of us). Actually this forum influenced me to watch full version of this movie .... thanks guys

Thats probably why " Gone with the Wind" set during the American civil war is a classic. It conveys the tragedy of the era beutifully, without alot of action war scenes, whereas the Battle of Red Cliff is just that, an action movie, with only a token gesture to historical fact.

A little off topic, but years ago I saw a Hong Kong Movie/ bloc buster if there can ever be such a thing for Run Run Shaw/ Shaw brothers called "Dream of the Red Chamber" circ 60's ish or something like that, a human drama film based during the last chinese dynasty i think.I believe the story was a classic ?? I had a crush on the actress though... sigh

Not only that, the supposed "character development" parts are sooooo cheesy. I don't think anyone can watch it with a straight face. I mean who would abandon his troops in the middle of an exercise to help a farm boy with his fluke? Where is his professionalism? Even professional athletes nowadays treat their practice more seriously than that...

Want to watch a GOOD Chinese war movie? try "The Assembly". I've watched it n times and still cry every time I watch it. My favorite Chinese movie by far.

are you talking about a movie about a teenage boy living a wealth family and in love with his childhood sweetheart?

If yes, it is based on one of the most famous novels in Chinese history with the same name. And the author lived in the Qing dynasty, the last dynasty of China, but the story in the book actually was in the Ming dynasty. And the story was actually based on the author's own life.

People say the novel is so deep that you won't be able to appreciate it until you are sooooo "experienced"... I, for one, cannot appreciate it... a whole bunch of nonsense to me...

Hey you are de-banned!!:D:D:D

yeppers, I have been craving scallion bings for ages now, and for those that have no idea what a bing is, it can be translated to the following, pancake, flatbread, "pizza"(yes I have seen it being translated to pizza), some even call it pie.

I see what you were saying. Which one are you talking about though? they got two guys eating "bing" in the movie. The platoon commander at the beginning and the artillery officer in the middle.

I think of it more of a wrap.
