Type 022 Missile Boat

The quarter-pack at Zhoushan you mention was new construction from Bingbo Navy Yard No. 4806, not known for which squadron but logically one in East Sea Fleet. Their construction was no doubt related to the expansion of squadrons from 8 to 12 boats.

Construction stopped in 2010/2011. I have seen no evidence that indicates an end strength of more than 5 x 12 boats.

Those at Weihai and Guangzhou are in for maintenance at Xinghai Navy Yard No. 4809 and Huangpu Navy Yard No. 4801. Type 022 evidently requires a lot of maintenance, I have yet to see a picture from Huangpu without a couple of 022’s in for repairs.

A small fast boat will be lightly built and when well used will be prone to metal fatigue. Much experience will lead to modifications that will reduce the problems but that it will occur is a certainty.

with all due respect... but: google globus shows one full squadron in the north, two full squadrons in the east and one of the two squadrons "incomplete" in the south. quite a run to shantou for the guys! do they do it on their own? or ...?

Yes, they transfer under their own power, except that some of the first quartet from Qiuxin Shipyard, Shanghai, were transported on board the SICHANG.

Also, you may see older pictures of newcon 022's being transported in a small dock from Xijiang Shipyard, Liuzhou, to Huangpu for final fitting out.

You cannot expect to see all ships present when their bases are covered by GE.

Not implying that the chinese copied or what... but that ship reminded me of US Trimaran Littoral Combat Ship.

Yeah, you are correct. But I do hope that they could include a helicopter pad for added capability.

Would be nice, but I think this one is probably in the same class as the Type 022 missile boat. It's too small to carry and helicopter. Maybe this one is for export.
