On the subject of ASW, is it really that hard and difficult of a warfare? I mean granted the enemy sub is not going to make it easy for you to hunt and sink it that's for sure. But from most sources I read, it depicts that the best and most surest way to hunt an enemy sub is by deploying your own sub. Anything else, even a surface ship fully armed and equipped for ASW, is at a distinct disadvantage ( I am excluding MPA aircrafts here). Bar deploying a ASW helicopter, a submarine is almost always going to detect the surface ship first regardless of what the surface ship does. And once the sub fires a torpedo, the surface ship is basically screwed.
Now I know that by default a submarine is always going to be quieter then a surface ship, and advances in torpedo technologies has made them even more deadly then before. But is it always a lopsided engagement for say a Type 54A frigate when it is tasked to hunt a Los Angeles sub or something of the like ?

True, but I specifically removed ASW helicopters from the equation, with the main reason being ASW helicopters cannot be deployed 24/7.
A Squadron of Drones with ASW capability would seem to be the ideal choice in this scenario. With the the drones and drone operators taking turns to look out for subs 24x7, deployed all over the South China sea and East China Sea , it would be a nightmare for the enemies Submarine crew. I'm just daydreaming I guess.

No single system will do the job . Most likely there will be many system working concurrently and in network. You have fixed based sensor like sossus, then you have sea glider, marine surface robot, submarine, maritime militia, Surtass, fiber optic, UAV, satellite, KQ 200 plane, sea militia, frigate, destroyer, corvette, communication and tracking station like "elephant cage"
All tie up with network and supported by processing and command control center
That is look like what China is building now "underwater great wall"

Southern Z-9D helicopters launched YJ-9 anti-light craft missiles today in a live fire drill.

Is this the first time we've actually seen a Z-9D firing a YJ-9 missile? I can't find any previous reference to a live firing but it seems strange since they've theoretically had that capability for a while.
