Another idea ... That's the same place with some J-11 in comparison ... but maybe it's the J-15 (= naval Flanker) prototype with the front part under a tarpaulin ?

Yes I too can see that the "mystery" aircraft resembles somewhat, the J-11s also on the tarmac, but I don't think that it is the J-15 prototype either. Sorry to dis-agree with you Dieno, but if it is the J-15 prototype, then where is its horizontal tailplane at(?) I know the resolution of the Google image is poor, but I can see easily the horizontal tailplanes on the J-11s, but not on the "mystery" aircraft. Plus the aircraft in question is also shorter in length than the J-11s there as well. Just and observation. The "mystery" aircraft does not have nor show any horizontal tailplane. And also, from what I can see of the vertical fin's shadow, it is canted outward (?) Maybe it is a testbed of some sort for engines (?) Who knows - if someone knows they're not talking.

Fighter aircraft often have a maintenance split in the fuselage to make access to the engine(s) easier.Might it b be a J-11 from which the aft end has been removed? The question then is, what's that thing doing there.

The mysterious single-engine jet maybe the J-14 5th gen fighter manufactured by Shen Yang aircraft corporation. If Cheng du had finished double-engine J-20 fighter,no doubt northern aircraft corporation should develop another light next generation fighter.

According to an image revealed by China's state-run TV station, the country is developing a fourth generation fighter. Nicknamed Snowy Owl by Chinese military enthusiasts, the appearance of the jet fighter is similar to the F-35 made by the United States defense contractor Lockheed Martin.

The J-20 stealth fighter is not the last Chinese technological development which will astonish the United States, one Chinese netizen said in an online message; Snowy Owl is just another example.

China is secretly developing a triplane-canard-configurated fighter that has a totally different architecture to that of the J-20, CCTV was quoted by Hong Kong-based Sing Tao Daily as reporting. Some Chinese online military experts believe that the fighter is very likly to be the Snowy Owl, currently being developed by the AVIC Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SIC).

Online information regarding the SIC says that it is manufacturing a new type of aircraft whose design uses triplane canard configuration, Chinese netizens reported.

The aircraft has a fixed vertical wing, and the engine has rhomboidal nozzles, according to the CCTV report, adding that the design renders the aircraft lighter than most of the fourth generation fighters.

J-15? I thought that was the Navalized flanker. I don't put a whole lot of faith in this article and those 'pictures'....

I did a quick google search and found the plane to be named J-14. If this true, it's truly impressive for PRC to co-develop both the (F-22 and F-35 alike) in the same time span.
