Just regarding that statement "But of course, that doesn't mean it (edit: the FC-1) doesn't have other possible places with PLAAF."

Is there any new information avaiable about the current plans for a possible use in PLAAF- or PLANA-service ???

well, PLAAF is transforming from a purely aerial denial air force only suited for defending the immediate air space to an air force capable of air superiority. As such, you really need more long ranged fighter jets.
not really and I think there is a place for JF-17 in PLA, especially since they've finally stopped producing J-7Gs. Meaning that when those J-7 regiments retire, they will need some cheap replacement. I think CAC needs to design a variant that fits the requirements of PLAAF, but I'm not really sure the priority for this given that CAC is busy working with J-10B, the 5th gen fighter + numerous UAV projects.

I read that ex PAF ACM said that J10 had more then enough range. I think we can put that in perspective cause for Pakistan there is a different distance to border or enemy/airfields/major cities then for China that will have oceans to conquer. Adding 2 big wingtanks is nice but precious ordnance is gone. Adding IFR maybe nice but you risk refueller. I agree with Tphuang that J10 needs a bit more. Maybe conformals or more internal fuelspace.

About Fc1 entering PLAAF. I had that in my mind since he beginning. You just cannot expect J7 to go on for decades without range, BVR or decent ECM. The J10 is costly (just look a the cost of its engine...!). And there is no real alternative besides Fc1. The fact that Fc1-06 is seen flying would ring bells. We cannot see the quantity yet cause the Fc1 has some testing to go. But the path and partnerships are predictable.

    Trainer: Majority K8, added J15
    Lower: Fc1
    Medium: J10a/b
    Medium+: J11
High: still a bit secret for outsiders but we all know what we can expect...

I think that the current Fc1-06 is block1 version but we can expect some intresting upgrades. If you look at PAF JF17 weapons then it is going to right way to become decent workhorse. The usual dumb boms, BVR (SD10/PL12, alernatives), Cruise missile (Raad), LGB's, GPS guided bombs. I think that is offers more then the average medium ech available to most nations and that for a very reasonable price.

Is the JL-9/FTC-2000 jet trainer based on the FC-1?
    The two jets look similar.

No they are not. The JL-9 is quiet literally, a heavily improved J-7 (MiG-21). The FC-1 is a completely different aircraft (although its origins are closely associated withe the J-7)

I remember him. He was basing view on how the later versions of J-7 have the same canopy as JF 17, thus he concluded they were very similiar. He did not care about how the fuselage, wings, tail planes, intakes, nose cone etc were different.

Then he said it was based on f 16, which was ok with me because PAF will be happy with jet as agile as F 16.:roll:

Oh just read page 6 to see Indianfighter in action.

You misunderstand. The reason I put it in quotes was to explain to the person that they are in different classes, when it comes to size, range and payload, etc... I was explaining that even if JF-17 is upgraded to the max, it still cannot fulfill the same roles as J-10, just as is true for J-10 compared to Su-27 or F-15. Because they are in different classes. That stuff is different from combat lethality, which CAN be enhanced through upgrades.

that's fine, but JF-17 would be over-matched by a J-10 in A2A combat, whereas not even J-11B would be able to over match J-10 in A2A combat.
