Beautiful! I can't help but to think about "lineage".

Here is a side by side comparison :

One can clearly see the evolution of the design, very much like how the F-22 was evoluted]offspring of F-15.
Ultra, SD Rules specifically forbid Hot Linkiing photos from other sites. Your second phto there of the J-10 is hotlinked from:

Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

You either have to have your own server with your pictures on it, or have them hosted at a Picture Hosting site like Flickr or imugr.

I fixed this one this...but in the future be aware that such hot linked photos will simply be deleted.

Read the SD Forum Rules.

Sorry, not really a new bird before I leave for one week but I found this image:

It's the avatar of a member at the CJDBJ-Forum (Super-Military Forum)

Has anyone a full-sized version of this small image ??? At least it is a new image I did not know so far.

I don't have it, but... It's possible this is a re-touched screen capture from a video. Many videos of J-20's test flights over Chengdu show precisely this perspective.

While we are waiting on the next prototype, this will have to do.

I have noticed that in various forums/blogs people have complained lack of internal gun in J-20... why? I don't get why fighter like J-20 would need a gun. Since Vietnam war short range heat seeking missiles (AIM-9 etc) have been primary killers in air combat and probably are going to be that in future conflicts, especially if ROE demand that enemy must be identified before engagement.

Back in 2007 reporter asked from a Finnish Hornet pilot why they need expensive JHMCS helmets and new AIM-9x missiles when Hornets have guns and the pilot answered that in modern dog fight only fool or really desperate pilot is trying to get a gun kill. He also mentioned that if you run out of heat seekers you get out of combat. Unfortunately it was a very short radio report so pilot didn't have time to talk much.

It's a good insurance policy, especially since we don't know how close range air-combat between fifth generation fighters (or even fifth and fourth generation fighters) will unfold.

Personally, I believe that high-powered solid-state lasers will supplant the gun on sixth or later-model fifth gen models. One advantage military analysts don't often consider is the fact that you can potentially enjoy a 360 degree field of combat with one or two laser turret emplacements. As a result, aircraft agility might be deemphasized.
