Re: New Generation Fighter

From Huitong's site
J-13 is the first generation of Chinese shipborne fighter aircraft being developed by both 601 Institute and SAC for PLAN's first aircraft carrier. It was speculated originally that the aircraft would be based on J-11B (as J-11BJ, see above). However recent evidence suggested that J-13 is very likely to be a new semi-stealth design. The twin-engine heavy fighter design might have benefited from a similar but more advanced stealth design developed between 1990 and 2000 by SAC/601 Institute to compete for the J-14 project (see below). It might also have benefited from the development of J-11B, such as similar radar and electronic systems as well as the improved WS-10A turbofan engine. Some key shipborne aircraft technologies such as landing/navigational systems are believed to be based on Russian Su-33 and were bought from Russia and Ukraine. Overall J-13 is believed to be in the same class of American F/A-18E. Some parts of J-13 such as landing gear have already been manufactured. The first prototype is projected to fly within 2-4 years.

If you're looking for more J-13 discussion, there is already a lengthy one already at Naval Forces/Navy subforum http://www.sinodefenceforum.com/showthread.php?t=4296

Re: New Generation Fighter

with the economy in such a bad shape and obama in power for the next four years we can expect to see the military expenditure, or at least the increase of it, to decline. but the US has every incentive to maintain a clear military advantage.
China's defence industry prolly wont be affected by as much because more spending is in fact what it needs. and more importantly it has the Taiwan issue to worry about. i wouldnt be surprised even if China's military industry expands significantly over the next few years. afterall they do seem have such ambition, the price factor seems to be all the more important nowadays.

ps. as for the economy i agree that this is prolly beyond a business cycle. the crisis prolly wont last much longer but will be followed by a extended period of recession or weak economic growth.

Eh, I think you might be surprised. The Obama administration has made it clear it intends to increase the size of both the US Army and Marine Corps. The only service in any real jeopardy is the USAF, and this is a problem of their own making. Their procurement system is corrupt to the bone, so much so nobody in Congress trusts a word from any USAF official's mouth.
Btw, the push in the F-35 program is to get the B model on line with the Marines. They will probably be the first service to put the F-35 into front line service.

lol never heard of any corruption in the USAF but if obama wants to shift his attention to ground elements it is understandable given america's current needs. but in the long term this is a reversal of the decades of pro-AF trend we have been seeing since the first gulf war. it might come back to haunt the US armed forces later on

Re: New Generation Fighter

Never heard of corruption in the USAF? How about the saga of Darlene Drunyon? She was the USAF procurement chief for the first attempt to buy a new tanker to replace the KC-135. Boeing was chosen, but it was revealed she was given a vice presidency at Boeing and two other relatives received high paying jobs at Boeing. About a year or so later, her replacement smoked his gun. Committed suicide. Why? Congress subpoened him to testify about why he was receiving $13000 a month ( ! ) from a private contractor with business before the Air Force. If you look, every major procurement program in the USAF is under a cloud. The latest tanker contract was protested by Boeing and for some pretty good reasons. The USAF told Boeing not to offer a 777 derived tanker for the contract because the USAF supposedly intended to stage another competition to replace the KC-10 where a larger airplane would have been appropriate. Aside from this Boeing's offer met all of the USAF's KPP's or Key Performance Parameters, contrary to what was in the USAF's evaluation. Then there is the replacement for the HH-60 Nighthawk. Boeing Vertol won that one and the results were immediately protested by Sikorsky and Lockeheed-Martin.
The GAO recently ripped them for failing to adhere to OSD procurement guidelines. The USAF seemingly cannot make even one good procurement decision.

Re: New Generation Fighter

The J-13's airframe and wings are designed to give it strong lift force for carrier operations, but that design limits its speed

I think the J-XX, as an air superiority fighter, will have a different design.

I think the recent economic problems in the US, can be consider their start of economic decline. Why? The very fundamentals of their financial system was already hardly hit. "Insurance, Banks, Investment firms collapsing"

That is really serious... If one day,the world lessens its uses on the dollar, its value will be gone.

Especially with the recent huge bail outs and stimulus packages... A widespread inflation might occur...

Back to topic.

Can anyone confirm this? Was this PLAAF's next generation fighter? or was this an F-22 Raptor?

This is my first post forgive me for the spelling

true the fist picture is a Raptor but the second pic. is actually a wooden mock up of possible J-XX. I have read an article about China's 5th generation fighter and the same pic. was used, I think I read it on 'Combat aircraft' but not quite sure.
