Does the USA really even know how many nukes China has because for all we know (and maybe what China officially tells the world but reality is bound to be very different as China has no interest in telling the world about Chinese full arsenal unlike Russia and the USA does for some stupid reason), China could already have a few thousand nukes already prepared for use at a moments notice via DF to strike the US homeland within the half hour which I am certain the pentagon knows but Biden obvious is too brain dead to know and the rest of his entourage are too arrogant to worry themselves about the potential dangers of angering a nation whose production ability far outstrips Russias which is already given the USA a massive headache (but don’t tell them that because they ultra dumb and fail at basic logic)
It might not be that easy for Washington's spies to know China's nuclear roster, because China keeps only several hundred warheads on high readiness while most of their arsenal is separated from the warheads during periods of "low tension". So it's not as simple as just finding 1 middle level hanjian who would divulge the arsenal's size and specifics, the whole arsenal's specs might only be known by the very few people that are in charge of uniting the warheads and platforms during danger.
In the past, China may have wanted to win a nuclear war (Mao's plans) using strategic ambiguity, fast delivery platforms and missile defense as a contingency. But with China as the world's largest economy which neither Mao nor Deng could have predicted, modern day China just has too much to lose to seriously consider aggressively using nukes on the capitalist world.
Using nukes would be trading down, same reason Biden would not threaten to use nukes against Russia either, because Russia is smaller than USA.
However, there are also no benefits to dropping strategic ambiguity, because it keeps China's enemies on their toes. Once ambiguity is lost, it can't be regained.
