I do not think he was that naive. Neutrality worked fine in Austria and Finland for decades.

I think Finland will regret it. And recently, shortly before Finland became an official member of NATO, I heard a statement by the Finnish president that sounded very childish, paraphrase: the main reason for Finland to join NATO is because it will annoy Putin. Not because there is any danger for Finland, but to anger Putin.

And Germany can only dream of such neutrality and sovereignty.

Visibly occupied Germany, so shameful and disgraceful:

Financial Times, citing four people familiar with the negotiations: China is refusing to accept US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken for fear that the Biden administration could release the FBI report along with physical evidence from the balloon, and that its findings could be made public during Blinken’s trip to China.

Translation: Blinken wanted to go to China but was ignored, so again he used the balloon incident as an excuse to save face.

Its a good diplomatic argument but irrelevant geopolitical argument. Also Germans don't control their foreign policy so any emotional response is also irrelevant

Any nation that allows its political elites to be educated, have wealth in and partake in USG sponsored initiatives is allowing its best and brightest to become corrupted and handing over their soverignty to the Anglo Americans. Look at Sanna Marin, perfect example and WEF alumni.
This is also why i believe that for the UN to remain relevant, its HQ will need to be moved out of the prying spying eyes of the US and to a neutral 3rd party state. The UNSC secretary general Gutierrez is hopelessly compromised, who knows what sort of kompromat the USG has on him.

In any case, USG strategy of funding any would be dissident of China (and Russia) is gonna be slightly more difficult in the future when the USD starts losing its reserve currency status and where even the europeans can look down on the US once more.

All those US bases in foreign countries are supposed to protect the dollar as the reserve currency; will we actually see US forces supporting the facade of a controlled opposition in a coup against soverign governments who dedollarise?

Regardless what the Anlgos wants, the rest of the world moves on:

He was delusional. Stalin in some aspects was mighty stupid and naive, this is one of them
It worked in Austria, were West agreed to do just that, though Stalin died less than a year after the Notes were sent, so we don't know what he would have done or reacted or expected from it.

Also, West Germany was being run by an oportunist coward like Adenauer.

This is why the Chinese government gets things done. They are cool-headed rational people who value results over rhetoric.

Most people, even people on this forum, prefer Trump-style demagogy because it makes them feel good about themselves, but following your feelings instead of your head always has a price.

The Chinese government is perfectly capable of snubbing European diplomats if they wanted to, as in the case of VDL. The fact that they treated Baerbock with far more respect than she deserved means they judged it was beneficial for the Chinese position to do so.

As the saying goes, 小不忍则乱大谋。
