Wait a minute!! Wait a minute!!...Just when did the PLAN purchase the Zubr? I thought the ship was out of production? Are these Russian left overs??? what gives??

As far as I can determine the last one built was for the Hellenic(Greek) Navy in 2005.

Someone please provide some proof of purchase.

There is no Zubr in PLAN

Thanks..My bad. I misunderstood the post once I saw that photo of the Zubr. I did not think the PRC had any Zubr.

By the way the pic of the 071 with landing craft inside is probaly PSed. No way is a well deck that dry with boats stored inside. And that landing door/ramp should be all the way down..that is if the function of said ramp is similar to the USN. Just my opinion.

...and a good one it is. THe well deck does indeed get very wet.

Here is the way an LPD well deck looks when vehciles and vessels are coming and going...both large LCAC and smaller EFV type vehicles.

Those are not boats but hovercrafts, and hovercrafts don't require water to be able to move.

The larger LCACs you see entereing the well deck of the USS San Antonio in the pictures I attached are also hovercraft, and the larger hovercraft that the PLAN are apparently going to use are almost exactly like that. Hovercraft, as they move across the water, kick up spray and water. Even those smaller Type 724s.

Popeye's point is that the well deck of an amphibiopus vessel is not going to be so clean before, after, or during operations where multiple craft of any type enter into the well deck. It doesn't matter if it's a US LPD or a PLAN LPD...the deck will be very wet...and even awash in water as these pictures of actual well deck operations attest.

That's what the pictures of the well deck from the San Antonio indicate, which is a vessel very similar (albeit perhaps a little larger) to the Type 071, and one, I believe, the Type 071 was patterned after.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Jeff. you explained it better than I can.

Gents I do not doubt the PLANs ablity to use the 071 as designed >>> Remember that I've actually seen well decks open with my own eyes. Many, many, many times. Well decks get wet when that ramp is dropped. get wet no matter what you do.

..And unless those hovercraft were loaded on land..How did they get there?

Umm, there is no reason why it can't be dry and spotless. After all, who can say how long had passed from when the hovercraft embarked to when that picture was taken?

It would not be unreasonable for them to pick up their complement of hovercraft from a base near the shipyard and then travel to the Hainan naval base and not deploy anything until they put out to sea again.

The deck might be flooded when in operations, but it would hardly be unusual for ratings to be given a mop and bucket and told to make it spotless, especially if the ship is brand new and some people with very fancy hats are scheduled to inspect it after it arrives at from the shipyard.

Because it can't stay dry. Take it or leave it. Do you have any idea the volume of water going in and out of a well deck? Have you ever seen live and in person well deck operations.?

Another question..Why are the hovercraft inside of the well deck inport? Is this part of a static display or visitors day event? Has the 071 ver been open to the public?

The water also acts as an lubricant between the cushion and metal surface of the hovercraft.

You can believe whatever you wish.

The brass knows full well that the well deck should be wet. Period.

Well I guess the PLAN has devised a system to keep a well deck spotless and dry. Amazing! Jeezz..
