Honestly, if the anglos had decided not to target China and TikTok, they could well have gotten this RESTRICT bill passed but thanks to their greed and desire to steal TikTok, they overreached and are now having to deal with 150 million Americans pissed off with the prospect of losing their twerking vids.

While we laugh about Tiktok, many Chinese Americans use WeChat to get in touch with family members in the PRC and under the RESTRICT act they’d be enemies of the US government if they videochat with granny.

I now understand how Muslims in America felt post 9-11.

I would lol if one of the unintended consequences of Restrict is a resurrection of Huawei’s mobile phone business in the US because everyone needs Huawei’s with preloaded TikTok and WeChat and all the other top Chinese apps afterwards.

Won’t happen. Restrict act covers hardware as well. They can technically ban a vibrator if it gets firmware updates from a Chinese firm.

Callbacks to American hoaxes about North Koreans being executed for watching K dramas. Soon, Americans will get 20 years of hard labor for playing genshin impact lmao

Where are the "freedom loving" people in America now? Nah, they were always a culture of "follow the leader", never have been anything else.

Gonna be funny when the restrict act drops and 330 million muricans get purged from the open Internet into Zuckerberg's containment zone.

Illegal drugs are banned, is the US a drugs free utopia? If there is a demand, products will find ways in. Hell, the US cannot even keep mobile phones out of its prisons, how successful do you think they will be trying to keep them out of the country?

Other brands won’t want to risk crossing the USG, but since Huawei’s already on America’s shit list, there isn’t much downside for them to worry about going out of their way to mess with the Restrict act.

Although I suspect if the opponents of Restrict led with the vibrator ban spillover effect, the act would be dead already.

It’s desperation on the part of the Americans. When they had PRISM style back doors they were sitting pretty and advocating for freedom but now when they’re losing their back door monopoly like the back door bandits that they are, they go full mask off and want to turn into their fevered dream of North Korea which is actually east Germany digital stasi state.

Restrict Act tells me the Anglo elites are preparing for mass civil revolt due to either shortages from no longer being able to monopolise heartland minerals and middle eastern oil, or that they are preparing to galvanise the public into another Big Lie that will instigate a third world war.
why the big rush now?
because at current rates, Chinese tech will surpass the entire western world before the end of this decade, perhaps sooner and with it, goes the west’s single claim to power: a monopoly on the keys to the tech of the 21st century.
Hence the Anglo push for war, complete with depleted uranium and tactical nukes.

It covers anything computing. You can even argue that a light switch can be banned by it because a light switch is a mechanical state machine. It stores data (on or off) by mechanical means. Just another case of tech illiterate lawyers in the US congress writing laws about things they don't understand.

Nah, I think they got advice from people who are tech savvy, but has intentionally made the law very broad precisely so that they can do a lot with it.

Such as banning TikTok, but as possibly basically any Chinese company or product that they think is a 'threat'.
