So which of these engine projects, in your opinion, are 'real' and which ones are fake?
let's just go through what the projects they have. They listed those 4 turbofan project in Zhuhai airshow. They also have WS-15, WS-12/13, a large bypass turbofan engine, a copy of AI-222.
I heard WS10A has more thrust than the AL-31FN. Can someone verify this?

specs is one thing, whether or not they can achieve that consistently in mass production is another issue.

So do we know is the WS-10A has FADEC or not? Or is the WS-10B the fadec version? What happened to the original WS-10, why was it never used?


the FADEC system for FWS-10 is under development and scheduled for completion by 2010.

the first mass-produced FWS-10 engines were introduced operationally in 2007 , which powered the J-11B fighters .

Thanks for that - esp. as in comparison to the WS-1A in Zhuhai here is the gearbox below - but I'm still not sure about the reports of WS-10A-equipped J-11B as on all I've seen so far the afterburner-nozzle looks identical to an AL-31F and not like the pedals seen on this engine or the one in Zhuhai. :confused:

So ... are there different nozzle-designs for earlier and later / current WS-10A's or the J-11B's so far delivered are still powered by AL-31F's, even if their last delivery is some years away.

Any ideas ????

The J-11B is designed to use two indigenous engines designated FWS-10. Since FWS-10 and АЛ-31Ф are different in size(diameter) and cycle parameters( airflow,pressure ratio and etc.. ),I assume that both can not be interchangeable.

so far there's no close up picture of J-11B aft-fuselage showing the details of its nozzle. :D

the 606 institute incorporated many features of D30-F6 and AL-31F into the design of domestic fully adjustable nozzle, such as active/independent control of the subsonic flow petals by means of 18 hydraulic cylinders and aerodynamic control of the supersonic flow petals;similar to AL-31F ,installation of FWS-10/10A requires a set of flexible petals (maybe shroud) to ensure the smooth transition from nacelle to nozzle.

But they are different to each other ?!!

Hi and thanks a lot for Your reply esp these detailed nozzle-comparisons, but what are these two different FWS-10-designs ?? I remember the one in the test-bed and then the recent one hopefully to be installed soon … ??
Anyway I still have some problems with the nozzle arrangement, as on the J-11B the nozzle looks identical to an AL-31F whereas the WS-10A shown at Zhuhai had a completely different design. I will have to look again, but I think the number of pedals are different for WS-10A and AL-31F ... and if I remember correctly, then on the picture seem from behind (the one with these MAW's) there are the same as on a AL-31F.

even if You are correct, that we don’t have a clear picture of a serial WS-10-equipped J-11B the one of that MAW-fitted machine show the inner structure/details clearly. IMO the engine on the collage is a WS-10, which shows very much the same details as on the one shown in Zhuhai, namely the maybe slightly wider diameter (?), the shorter pedals and that strange inner structure. In comparison to the WS-10 and WS-10A the AL-31F and the one shown on the J-11B with the MAW's have exactly the same details as a standard AL-31F, namely much longer pedals and no inner structure.

But the most important argument (at least IMO) ... when You compare the flying WS-10-testbed machine You can clearly see the differences. Then take a look to all other J-11B-pictures, and they all - agreed, if visible - have the longer nozzle. IMO a clear proof that they are still equipped with AL-31F's, even if I don't know, where they come from.

it's AL-31F that powers some modified J-11 technology demonstration aircrafts for the J-11B program.

all the operational J-11B fighters and final version of prototypes are using FWS-10 engines .

Take a note of this and this. The pictures without the hook like structure is an AL-31F on display in an airshow and on the Su-30MKK.
