J-XY/J-35 carrier-borne fighter thread

One reason I have doubts about the J-XY program is its apparently low numbers of test prototypes and test flight frequency. This is not the way a new aircraft approved and under full development should behave.

The new FC-31-based J-XY was exposed around the end of October 2021. Since then, for more than one year, the only airframe exposed on the internet was 35001, without any other one. There were also very few photos of this prototype flying in the sky, no more than once every month or two. Many of the pictures revealed were actually computer graphics rather than real photos. The last time J-XY picture revealed in this thread was on November 4, 2022 (#7043), about two months ago.

For comparison, when the J-20 first flew, we saw vessel 2001-2004, 2011-2017, 2101, 2102, 2021, 2022, 2031, 2032, 2051... more than 10 prototypes were revealed sequentially in different stages.

During the J-15 test flight period, we have seen at least 7 prototypes such as 551-556, 561.

We have also seen more than ten Y-20 prototypes of 781-788, 7810, 7811, 7813, etc.

Since the first flight of the KJ-600 in 2021, although we haven't seen any close up photos of the prototype airframes, we could confirm on Google Earth that at least three vessels were built and under test flight at China Test Flight Establishment, Yanliang. Fans have posted photos of the KJ-600 flying in the sky frequently with more and more details.

The J-XY project is amazingly low-key on the contrast. If PLA Navy really wanted it, then at least a second prototype should be built and flown intensively by now, if not more than one. So, what does this mean for the J-XY project? Is it really under full-speed development?

FYI 350003 has been up and running for months at least, I suggest you do some research before posting things based on your personal presumptions, try at least to get basic facts straight.B881032B-D5B3-4EFE-B649-4C9ED461A990.jpeg

Also, I’ll restate this one more time: using publicized photos as a sole basis to determine whether something is under development is problematic bordering on stupid. There have been numerous examples of projects showing little signs of progress for long periods of time then suddenly showing up with major developmental progress in the Chinese aviation industry. If you have a personal problem with fc31 and/or J-XY I can respect that, but posting unproven and unfounded arguments in a state of denial here isn’t doing anybody any good so stop.

This 350003 is what I called 35001. My bad.

There was NO 35001. 350003 is the only J-XY protype by now. Did you ever see 35001 or 350001?
…Yes? You do remember the green prototype that first flew don’t you, that’s 350001. Either that or some idiot decided to make 2 static test airframes before a flyable one.

To be fair there isn’t a clear photo circulating that shows the designation 350001. Closest thing is probably this. Blurry af but you can just barely make out the “1” at the end of the serial number2E43CE8D-2D6B-4E42-A5B6-3D1420ABD40D.jpeg

this one’s of even worse quality, but just for good measure I’ll leave it here as well

People underestimate the difficulties photographing in Shenyang. Just how many prototypes of J-16 have we spotted before they became one of the most numerous fighter aircraft in PLAAF?
This is what happens when your local economy isn’t growing so much that land development ends up encroaching into areas that used to be removed from urban population centers and their prying eyes :D

In other words, everyone should support massive economic development of Shenyang so that the city is forced to build new apartments closer to SAC’s facilities, and then we can have the aerospace sightseeing we all enjoy from Chengdu.
