The Japanese are somewhat similar to middle eastern cultures in this respect, in that they will only accept 'help' when they are on their knees at the complete mercy of their victors.
Treating them lightly when they still have some fight left in them is taken as a sign of weakness, only after a complete beatdown, where they have no chance of further resistance, will they accept an olive branch. Do this and they will eagerly embrace and worship you as a strong big brother.
On the flip side, as soon as they smell weakness they will begin playing shenanigans. Japan's rearmament push is an example of this.
They need to be treated as a junior partner, with force, to keep them in line.
What I'm concerned about is that there may not be a realistic chance to deliver widespread devastation, which may mean once the balance of power between China and US is uncontestable (in China's favour) in East Asia, a Hong Kong NSL style approach to denazify and Sinicise Japan might be the best approach to control Japan.
Just like the Mongols, Manchus and other barbarian tribes were civilised and absorbed into Chinese society, the same needs to happen to Japan for peace in East Asia. One day, they will become one of the many ethnicities of the Chinese nation.
Japan should be occupied

US did not just 'wreck their military' - it eviscerated Japanese cities and industry with air raids that killed a million civilians, left another million wounded and up to 10 million homeless. That's why Japs are in deference of the US. It seems the PLA must reenact Nanking in Nagoya to achieve the same effect.
That's not right. Massacre again can only have negative consequences.

China, Israel free-trade deal, Beijing’s first in Middle East, in ‘last stages’ amid troubles with US

  • After discussions dating back to 2016, a breakthrough trade deal between China and Israel may be signed this year, showing that Beijing can ‘talk to both sides’
  • Deal could potentially open the door to greater access to Middle Eastern agricultural technology as parts of China have been devastated by drought and heatwaves
China and Israel aim to sign a free-trade agreement by the end of 2022, an Israeli official said on Wednesday, in a breakthrough that would give Beijing its first deal in the Middle East plus a boost after years of trade friction with Australia and the United States.

I disagree. If the deaths of millions of 'innocent' civilians is what it takes to finally free Japan and the Japanese people from fascism, then that is actually the greatest favor we can do for them. Only once Japanese fascism is completely defeated can Japan and China work as equals towards creating a better future.

absolutely true. South Korea and Vietnam also says they hate China, but I don't think it lasts. Hate that comes quick goes quick too. South Koreans were pro China as recently as 2014. I don't take their hate too seriously, just normal vigilance. Vietnamese on the other hand is easily swayed by a few dollars. Imperial Japan starved them in WW2 for fun and yet because of some Japanese $$ in the 1980's Vietnamese worship them now.

But Japanese are still anti-Chinese racists and imperialists. Just because Japanese superficially are Asian and use Chinese characters doesn't mean they're anything like Chinese. From Chinese culture, Japanese adopted 忠 - loyalty - as their core value. Chinese on the other hand adopted 仁 - benevolence - as the core value. Chinese culture is all about overall feel and having a good end result while Japanese is about rigidly conforming to rules and expectations. Japanese loyalty is misplaced - towards unrepentant fascists both current and historical.

Patience though, Ming took 100 years to take care of the Mongols, but once that happened, the 1000 year threat from Mongolia was eliminated forever.
