Is this photo taken by a PLAN sailor near the Taiwanese or Chinese coast? There are some hills in the background.
Damn, that ROCN ship had seen better days. Look at all that rust. Their sailors should come over to the PLAN. They can sail much newer and better ships, and finally fight for their true motherland.
I wonder what the sailors on such a museum piece feels, seeing their countrymen from the 21st century sail next to them.
I think as ROC lost hope of taking back the mainland, the PRC proved itself able to give a higher life standard and better technology, many ROC fighters no longer have a burning conviction to win. The Chiang generation fought because they believed they would save China with their policies. The Tsai generation fights because they believe they can be a speedbump for the mainland out of spite.
Of course among ROC there infiltrated a number of cockroaches, I'm speaking of IJA nationalists, the likes of Lee Teng Hui, Tsai and the clan spawned by Kishi the rapist. But I would be really shocked if more than 5% of ROC soldiers are such "cockroaches". These IJA roaches instead are simply in the background, pushing misguided Chinese patriots who believe in the KMT system or simply protecting their home to fight other Chinese.
When push comes to shove, I don't think most ROC soldiers will fight for Tsai. In peacetime, there's no stakes, but very few people would be willing to lift rifles for the long dead Jap empire and some insane extremists.
Other than freezing of diplomatic ties with the US, I wonder if China wishes to take this further than just sanction Pelosi. Halting the purchase of US foodstuff could cause the democrats to get thrown out in all the foodbasket states in the midterms. Although I'm not sure if Republicans will change their tune on China once elected.
The PRC should keep one of those class of ships as a trophy. The rest of its class can be scrapped, used for target practice, or converted to civilian use.
As far as I know, the US took away towed array sonars while transferring Knoxes and OHPs to allied navies after 1991. At least that's the case for Turkey.

Taiwan decided to flex and do their own live fire artillery exercise only to end up in flames or causing a forest fire. What a mighty Army.
Knox class was a GUN ONLY frigate starting out, then it got 2 Harpoon launchers and 8 MANPAD equivalents during the refit..
It was obsolete against even 1996 PLAN and 1996 PLAN was not in good shape.
They probably won't but at least with them, what you see is what you get and we can avoid the whole "we are totally peace lovers and no, we aren't totally violating every agreement we signed with. And no, we aren't racists, we only hate the government, not the people you bat eating asiatic horde" double talk of the Democrats.
