I foresee this will also have long term consequences for China's ambitions in the south pacific, if they can't prevent their main rival from landing a plane right next door in their own rebel province, what makes any pacific island willing to let them construct a military base there? This episode so far is very damaging to Chinese soft power and is the blowback from years of wolf warrior diplomacy. The boy can only cry wolf so many times.

So many "Just hatched" Americans suddenly appearing here... As if celebrating an unprovoked act of aggression is anything to cheer at.

The Military has just moved out. Unless China wants to immediately drag US into the civil war, they're not gonna kill her while she's on Taiwan. They'll wait until she leaves, and then do whatever military operation was decided, when it's just between the 2 original combatants and there's less risk of US being caught in crossfire.

Crisis just started and is far from ending anytime soon.

The political impact is what's important. Let's say that the PLA was not ready. But once they detected the plane, they should have scrambled, made it look like an emergency, set afterburners to race towards the aircraft.

It doesn't matter if they fail to even get there before she lands, it will be visible on radar and it will send a strong warning that PLA has high readiness.

Once the decisions was made not to start a war, the chicken game was lost.
China should have picked a more calm and political way to handle those things than rilling up the own population
