That's quite encouraging because smaller regional powers may now find enough confidence in staring down US threats, not like before.
They just can't show up to a place with a big boat with lots of planes and snap their fingers.
First off, the show ain’t over. There is still a good chance Pelosi takes another bite at the cherry. Maybe she will schedule her official tour so her plane comes close to eastern Taiwan while en route to Japan or South Korea and then make a sudden mad dash or some similar hair brained nonsense. Especially as she checks her phone and see herself get obliterated online back home for being a coward.
Secondly, even if this crisis passes peacefully, no other power except China can resist US military threats.
Russia has already shown that with the right economic mix and China’s backing, you can weather American economic nukes, but no country can stare down the US military like China can. That means rather than all go trying to square up against the US, small powers may instead see security alliances with China as an attractive option to allow them to hide behind Chinese conventional military power to resist American coercion. That’s what America is most afraid off, because how the hell are they supposed to maintain the living standards of the majority of its people without harvesting the rest of the world? Work hard and actually compete fairly? Great joke!
