Whatever happened to Patchwork Chimera on reddit by the way? One day his account suddenly got banned for I don't know what reason. I don't know if you still keep in touch with him, but I quite liked his posts and he seemed to be one of the few guys who actually knows what he's talking about. It's a shame he got banned, does he post on here?

I wanted to ask too if he had another alt but don't get your hopes up lol. Was clearly revealing too much, obviously told by someone to shut the hell up. Just like those tankers baited by foreign intelligence on war thunder forums arguments into revealing munitions specs.

The English Wikipedia page on the Type 094-class SSBN is terribly out-of-date.

According to my sources which includes the Chinese Wikipedia page (not Baidu Baike) on the Type 094-class SSBN, the Type 094-class SSBN has at least two variants - The original Type 094, and the improved Type 094A.

This diagram by H.I. Sutton summarizes the difference between these two variants well.

In short, the Type 094A has a higher turtleback that is used to house SLBMs compared to the original Type 094.

This means while the original Type 094 could only carry JL-2 with a 7200 kilometer-range, the improved Type 094A is capable of carrying the larger JL-2A, which is the missile you mentioned that has a range of 11200 kilometers.

As a sidenote, the Chinese Wikipedia page (not Baidu Baike) on the Type 094-class SSBN also mentioned that the Type 094A can also carry the newer JL-3, which has an even greater range of at least 12000-13000 kilometers.

Yup the 094 is confirmed to carry a new SLBM that ranges CONUS from the SCS, only USSTRATCOM calls it the JL-3 for some reason (it's probably not).

The 11,200 km always struck me as a rather strange number. It's almost exactly the distance between the Bohai Sea and Washington, DC. That can't be a coincidence. I think the missile has longer range than that, but that number is given as a "word to the wise."

The PLAN is very secretive about their submarine forces, even more so than their American and Russian counterparts, due to matters of national security. The PLAN doesn't even disclose how many submarines that are in active service in their submarine force right now, so don't expect to hear any exact figures from them regarding those SLBMs.

But I am pretty confident that the actual ranges for those Ju-Lang SLBMs would be at least 1000 kilometers more than the publically available figure.

Although, PLAN isn't the only one doing this. Even the USN has classified the actual range of their Trident II SLBMs. The best guess for them would be at least 12000 kilometers.

Haha he decided the community over there wasn't worth the time and effort. His account wasn't banned, he deleted it. I don't think he has an account on here, but he does lurk. We're working on a fairly sizable project together at the moment, so perhaps I'll implore him to make an account.

The more the merrier. For every Ian Easton, there are a thousand Ian Easton readers who make for great dunk victims. Milshit has always been a seedbed for laughable public discourse, that will never change.
