There has to be a better way than the complete lockdown that some cities are experiencing in some major Chinese cities. Covid will continue becoming a wack a mole situation which adversaries external or internal would take advantage of.
The title of the piece is dumb, but i thought it was fair reporting. This cnn reporter mentions even though they are tested everyday and negative, they still cannot leave their compound. As they mention at the end, like they understand why for some measures like daily testing but some measures are just too much .

There is no better way. It is either locking down or living with the covid. For lock down, there are only a few options, Shenzhen mass testing with 7 days strict lock down, Beijing mass testing with long duration soft lock down, or Shanghai no mass testing with complete lock down.
As for this CNN reporter, he is just typical Westerner and liberal. Mass testing isn't going to make a dent in cutting off transmission chain if there are already hundreds of cases in the community. Shanghai is too late for simply relying upon mass testing to contain the virus. By allowing people leaving their compound would mean that the lock down would never be able to cut off the transmission chain.
