“For the first time, we don’t expect them to make any gains in the next few days," a NATO official told CNN earlier today, underscoring the degree to which Russia's advances on the ground have slowed. "They are putting in everything they have and are still making very little progress."

That's a complete nonsense. 40% of Russian troops still haven't engaged in battle. Russia controls the countryside. Ukrainian troops haven't made any moves suggest that it could disrupt Russian troops' movement.

It is one thing to say that Russia isn't doing well. It is another to suggest that Russia is putting everything they have. That's just pure propaganda and has little value to this forum.

I don't think both sides are serious about the peace negotiation. Labeling Russia a terrorist state, Zelensky basically wanted to escalate.

US banned oil and gas from Russia now. Britain banned oil and gas from Russia by end of 2022.

Most of these pro-West people don't understand is, people do remember how many wars that were started by the West, the US or NATO in the last few decades.

Indonesia takes the idea of 'Ummah' - the brotherhood of all Muslims - very seriously. It still does not recognise Israel diplomatically.

Of course they'd remember all the atrocties the US and NATO (and Australia too, the closest Western neighbour) committed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

To be clear, the Russians are not "putting in everything they have." That being said, what they have left is (1) regular troops outside Ukraine in other places in Russia, (2) reserves, and (3) potential conscripts. As for (1) I saw a news story from Western intelligence saying there's no evidence they are moving more regular troops near Ukraine from other parts of Russia. As for (2), Putin would have to break a televised promise not to use reserves in Ukraine, and the same goes for (3) where he made a televised promise, more than once, not to use conscripts. My sense is that Putin feels perhaps using conscripts or reserves would erode support for the war.

That leaves a force of as few as 170,000 including forces of the DPR and LPR (estimated at 34,000 on wikipedia) and including many casualties who can no longer fight (claimed by Ukraine as much as 1,000 per day) to occupy a country of 40 million, plus tens of thousands of international volunteers?

It seems something is going to have to give.

March 8, 3:00 PM EST

Russian forces continued concentrating in the eastern, northwestern, and western outskirts of Kyiv for an assault on the capital in the coming 24-96 hours.
The reported appearance of forces belonging to Chechen leader Ramazan Kadyrov, Russia’s Rosgvardia internal security formations, and the Liga (former Wagner) Private Military Company in the western outskirts of Kyiv may indicate that the Russian military is struggling to assemble sufficient conventional combat power to launch its assault on the capital. Russian forces near Kyiv made limited gains and prepared for limited drives to continue their attempted encirclement to the west.

Ukrainian forces have continued to challenge the lengthy Russian ground lines of communication leading from near Sumy to eastern Kyiv. Russian forces near Kharkiv have been steadily diverting to secure and extend those lines over the past few days, as we have reported. The Ukrainian General Staff reported on March 8 that Russian troops currently near Chernihiv appear to be moving east. We assess that those forces may seek to link up with troops coming from near Sumy to help them consolidate and protect their extended lines in support of the planned offensive against Kyiv.

The situation in eastern Ukraine and southwestern Ukraine remained largely unchanged in the past 24 hours. Ukrainian General Staff reporting of additional Russian efforts to advance on the city of Zaporizhya likely confirm that Russia intends to make blocking that city a priority. The forces Russia is so far moving toward Zaporizhya appear to be far too small to encircle or take it.

Key Takeaways
  • Russian forces are consolidating and preparing for further operations along the western and eastern outskirts of Kyiv, especially in the Irpin area in the west and the Brovary area in the east;
  • Ukrainian forces are challenging the extended Russian lines reaching from Sumy, which Russian forces have not yet taken, to the eastern outskirts of Kyiv;
  • Russian troops are likely attempting to bypass Mykolayiv and cross the Southern Bug upriver of that city to permit an advance on Odesa combined with an impending amphibious operation against that city; and
  • Russian forces are also driving north from Crimea toward the city of Zaporizhya.

Immediate items to watch
  • Russian operations northwest of Kyiv may resume attacks on the city and/or attempts to encircle it to the west in the next 24-48 hours;
  • Russian forces east of Kyiv may resume their drive likely intended to envelop Kyiv from the east;
  • Russian forces may attempt amphibious landings anywhere along the Black Sea Coast from Odesa to the mouth of the Southern Bug in the next 24-48 hours.

Note:
(from the detailed report)

ISW is unable to verify Ukrainian reports that Ukrainian rocket artillery sunk the Russian patrol boat Vasily Bykov near Odesa on March 7.[28]

No, China did not "jump on board" just now. Chinese media was covering the absurd amount of biolabs of the US military from the very early stage of the pandemic. The earliest coverage of the US biolabs that I've seen from Chinese media is from March. I think it, together with Fort Detrick lab-leak theory, mainly serves as a counter to the US-government-purported conspiracy theory of Wuhan Institute of Virology lab-leak theory:

Compared to the civilian-purposed Wuhan Institute of Virology which had US scientiests doing research there before the pandemic and invited WHO into the facility for investigation after the pandemic, the Fort-Detrick that, according to US government record, had an actual lab leak and was shut down because of the lab leak in 2019 was a more suitable suspect for the lab-leak theory. Not mentioning the hundreds of military-run US biolabs around the world that always have cases of the already extinct anthrax mysteriously pop up around those labs.

March of 2020.

Oh boy, Macron again. That theory of France and Russia dividing Ukraine is slowing looking more likely.

This is the theory:

That is an official NATO analysis and has more value to this forum than anything you have ever posted.
Is that a true NATO analysis? Or just pure propaganda. Even an amateur can see that Russian troops were paused a few days ago. Are you telling me those conveys of troops that got sent into Ukraine have already engaged in fighting. Are you disputing British and American intelligence those Russia troops were still not move into the position to launch an attack.

Either you believe you so called NATO analysis from CNN. Or you can choose to believe British and American intelligence briefing that say otherwise.

I'm not a Trump supporter but he does say some simple minded truths:

1. Fake news exists all around.

2. We've entered a post-fact era.

Witness it in action today.

I'm surprised they went full mask off for Russia. I was sure they were gonna save this for China but I guess the Russophobia got to them first.

I'm still remember how "The Guardian" put news on how Kim executed his ex-wife or maybe GF.. only later to be proven false as the person still alive. from that point on i always take every single news about NK with grain of salt.

It still pissed me off on how the media can get away with such BS. no apology or clarification whatsoever.
It's strange because I never had this happen before.
Never occurred to me what happens when a tweet is deleted.
It disappears, all the comments disappear, even the link on this forum got scrubbed.
So it's like they don't even have to deny it, because it basically never happened!
MSM keeps getting busted with misinformation and manufactured news and covering up thier lies. They twist propagandist narratives without shame and disregard reality.

Disgusting how they are the ones doing "Disappear"(cover-up) for inconvenient truth.
