What's there to annex? Annex means it wasn't yours to begin with. Nobody is going to set up a settlement on Diaoyu Island, but Chinese maritime law enforcement is effectively controlling the neighboring waters. This is a unilateral change of status quo, and Japan can't do jack about it.

Look, the islands were de facto under control of Japan. This is a fact. Clearly, using the word annex in this context would mean at the very least gaining operational control of the island.

I was clearly responding to a person you hold a similar opinion to, HE used the word annex, which I bolded and even quoted in my response.

Again, I'm happy to see China gain control of the island, or even just more solid proof that they refused the Japanese entry, but until then I am reserving judgement.

We always get snippets like these, hundreds at at time, that never end up amounting to shit. People always hop on with confidence, then pretend like they never did as time goes by. We'll see.

What hundreds of snippets? We've never seen incidents like this happen before. Last time there was a collision, 12 Chinese fishermen were detained by the Japanese coast guard. This time around, it's the Chinese coast guard ramming the Japanese coast guard, and the Japanese trying to downplay it.

There are many rumors and gossips that never end up amounting to anything. The last one was only a few weeks ago, discussing on Chinese social media that a US sub was forced out of the water. Stuff like this is always pushed by the Jai Hind crowd, I hate seeing Chinese doing the same.

The guy I responded to said the islands were "annexed", and since you say the islands were Chinese to begin with then what could he have possibly meant? Probably he meant gaining control of them in some way that was not previously established to be the case. So, I have said wait for a more legitimate source, and for now it seems to only be social media and some Japanese program (of which I am unsure the authenticity). That's all I responded to, nothing more.

I am happy to see this in fact be true, even if it isn't a landing and solely amounts to excluding the Japanese and Co. from occupying the islands in the foreseeable future. Nothing would give me more joy. But if you are not suggesting that is what it is, then what are you suggesting?

If you are just suggesting that the Chinese rammed the Japanese, what does that have to do with my comment? I never denied that is a possibility, only the speculation now that China has "annexed" the island..

But folks like this, or Gordon Chang, or another fat Chinese guy wearing glasses working for the US think tank (I completely lost his name right now, less seeing his name in last few years) might have helped doing something really good for China buying her some extra time of 10-15 years to defer the earlier attacks by the Exceptional Country. In that sense Chinese people must be thankful to their services. Words of aliens will not talk a country as big as China down!

“In the face of all kinds of false accusations and disturbance, we need to respond calmly and expose disinformation with facts. But the most important thing is to be determined to do our own things well. If we don’t fall on our own, we won’t be overthrown by anyone.

His name just popped up this morning :)

I've seen Dean Cheng as pundit on TV for a couple decades at least. First time I saw him he was the space guy the American media went to talk about Chinese space developments and he was with the Heritage Foundation back then. First he seemed harmless and yes now he seems to be a stooge for the right. The Heritage Foundation I believe has Christian connections so don't be surprised when they talk about China being poor. Christian propagandists have a thing about portraying China as starving and they're the ones feeding an ungrateful China. That's to establish China can't take of its own people where they think they have a right to take over China because Christians can so it looks like it's about caring for the Chinese and not just an excuse to turn Chinese into Christians so that their imaginary undemocratically elected deity that they can only talk to and therefore tell everyone what he wants barking out orders to the Chinese expecting unquestioning obedience aka the West is in control of China. I just saw a YouTube video of some idiot who believes Asians eat weird food that Westerners wouldn't eat because they're starving over there so they're desperate to eat anything and if they weren't starving they would only eat what Westerners eat. And you know what the context was? Before the movie Shang Chi came out, the alt-right YouTubers who claim to be independent were all saying that the movie was going to fail at the box office and they were completely wrong and they were all posting videos spinning how it actually failed and Hollywood was covering it up so the guy tried to save face from being wrong threw in a racist put down. And it happens that in one video I saw him claim before Christianity was the most harmless religion in the history of the world. So anytime you hear someone claim China is poor and starving, it's a Christian.

But is that truly bad for China? They are just self-blinding themselves at this point.

Look no further than (comrade) Gordon Chang who has fed bs to the West for so long and making them believe that China was totally collapsing.

The more the West is misguided the better for China to achieve its strategic goals. At one point the West will become another Soviet Union saying how totally bad the life in the West is, while in the Soviet Union everyone living a good life..

Let them delusion themselves while China is rocketing past them

Lol getting nervous now aren't we
If the americans really sincere about avoiding war with China as this general said, then the best way to do so is for China to achieve nuclear parity
As things stand right now obviously China nuclear forces is not being respected enough when you even have small fry like australia who openly talked about going to war with China

Global Times is on the roll. With so many recent articles on this, it seems that the moment of PLAAF fighter jets flying over Taiwan, is coming soon. I sense a growing consensus from the CPC on this.

More than half of China's diplomatic troubles are related to it. In the long run, the cost of maintaining the current peace in the Taiwan Straits will only increase for the Chinese mainland. The US and Japan have countless levers to collude with the island of Taiwan, which will constantly consume the Chinese mainland's diplomatic resources and energy
Sending PLA fighter jets over the island of Taiwan is a step we must take. The move will pose a fundamental warning to the Taiwan authorities and bring about reconstruction of the situation across the Taiwan Straits.
I agree with this. The West has countless ways of salami-slicing the Taiwan issue. China needs to escalate so that it stops all these efforts. Number 1 step is, as GT said, to have the PLAAF fly over Taiwan and thus fundamentally changing the status quo.

I cant wait to see the PLAAF flying over the "presidential" office of the Vegetable. Would be a glorious moment.

Bonus points if there is a photographer on the ground taking a photo of the Vegetable looking at the sky while PLAAF fighter jets directly fly over the Vegetable
