Actually it's legit:
So the tall grass and the thick white lines were an optical illusion or something.
From what I understood from the automatic translation, the aircraft was under maintenance for a while and it deviated from the runway after touchdown. Was this it's first flight after the maintenance?

Might be the proportion of the plane makes it kind of look like a toy plane, with the tiny fuselage

P-1/C-2 pair indeed look cartoonish.
Cuties!

p.s. other than from next year onwards P-1 is slated to carry up to 8 long-range ASCMs per plane.

Actually P1 looks like a damn good MPA and it's a shame it hasn't found more export success, beaten out by Boeing's P8.

I would have been happy if it had won the UK's MPA requirement, but given the P8's usage amongst our allies I can see in part why we went with the P8 in the end.

P1 is definitely a good MPA and a step up for Japan's maratime surveillance capabilities.

Is that confirmed or still in the works?

Problem for the P1 is that it requires a unique logistics and training package, whereas P8 can plug into the huge global 737 logistics and (for pilots at least) training infrastructure.
