A fire has apparently broken out at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, amid ongoing evacuation efforts. Video footage shows a cloud of smoke rising from the airport.
News of the blaze broke on Monday evening local time. Little is known about the fire’s severity or origin, but videos posted to social media show a hazy cloud of smoke rising from the airport, which has been the focal point of US and Western evacuation efforts for the past week.

Kinda tone-deaf. And is that a change of stance from Signapore? Yes they used to say that the US is Asia's security "guarantor" some years ago when it was reasonable to say so. But saying in a such public way at the current tense global environement seems strange, even more so for sending signals about potentially welcoming more US military presence

Beijing should now ask Singapore, which loves to play the neutral country card, if they are going to say that China is the "guarantor" of economic prosperity

Lately, it seems that Singaporean leaders lack the finesse needed for keeping a credible neutral stance.

Oh well. Another theft on the way. What a good business Congo has. They sell a mine, they take money, and then after some years they come back again looking to steal it from its owners. Another reason why Africa is unreliable.

Maybe China should accelerate PLAN and PLAAF (bombers) funding so that the rest of the world doesn't start getting any funny ideas about stealing assets from Chinese companies

It is more likely that some officials in Congo government asking for more bribes from China. This is brinkmanship but you should be ready for this if you are dealing with extremely corrupt countries where the dictator equals the country.

Mr Lee said he had an "excellent" discussion with Ms Harris earlier in the morning, highlighting that they reaffirmed the "robust and enduring" partnership between Singapore and the US.

"I also expressed our appreciation for US’ active role in the Asia Pacific, especially in Southeast Asia, and our shared support for a stable, rules-based international order in the region, based on international law, where all countries can both cooperate and compete peacefully with one another, and prosper together," he said.

Mr Lee said Singapore would also like to offer the Republic of Singapore Air Force's multi-role tanker transport aircraft to help the US as it conducts an evacuation of refugees from Afghanistan.

Buzzword for supporting US policies. Number 1 slogan of Blinken when touring around the world

where all countries can both cooperate and compete peacefully with one another, and prosper together," he said.
This might be a slight nod towards China.

I will say however that the first statement is much more implicit in supporting the US' position

"Rules-based international order"
