The future looks great for China. No reason this can't be a strong defense and economic relationship that borders on alliance in the near future:
You could probably add many countries in North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, the Persian Gulf, and even Latin America further out.

Honestly, I don't think it is a bad thing if it is done properly. It can be used to deal with the aging population and some PR points. Given, China's massive population, they will be sinicized in a few generations.
He knew China would say no, China does not have the same settler colonial mentality that America does so it is not used to immigrants coming from different places.
This is just them trying to use this as proof Chinese are uncaring or racist or something. Do whatever they can to turn the region against China.
These are just baby feelers, they will ramp up the propaganda as time goes by, when Americans start to even forget who the Taliban are to them. By 2030 you will see headlines like "Chinese killings of Taliban freedom fighters is escalating to genocide".
Lots of judgemental talk about the Taliban. I think we should give the Taliban a chance, Sure, they may have been over-zealot in protecting their identity, their way of life, and their culture in the face of overwhelming odds to force changes down their throat. They may also at some point anti-Chinese in their rhetoric and policies. However, the Taliban (= student) is young and have much to learn. I want to believe that they have learned some lessons and on their way to becoming more forgiving and tolerant. They should have better confidence in themselves now that they have defeated the biggest military power that is the USA.
Please understand that even China under Mao had episode then the CCP under Mao became over-zealot and dogmatic. There were many unfortunate atrocities committed in the misguided intent to advance the Chinese nation. I want to believe that such is the case with the Taliban. The Taliban is not monolithic. Allow the student (Taliban) to learn and be a better person.

Yes because it's working out so wonderfully in the west eh, no; china has its own method for attending to the ageing population and it's far more likely to be more successful than the western approach with no go zones, rape spikes and neo nazi movements.
