Honestly, the more and more I think about the withdrawal from Afghanistan. It seems like a terrible move. The amount of US and forces that US needs to keep the country in the hands of the Afghan government is far from draining. It makes no sense from a strategic point of view. The blow to American prestige and morale will be immerse. It is not worth the price of having a ''clean plate''. It seems more like Biden just wants to find a way to leave a mark on his presidency. This is a debacle of the highest order. As America is anxious about its standing in the world, this is the last thing America needs.
This is the fall of Saigon, repeated over 40 years later.
The Americans that they were pulling troops out of Vietnam because they equipped the South Vietnamese army.
As the Americans were pulling out their troops, the North Vietnamese Army prepared themselves.
When Biden announced that US troops will leave Afghanistan by September, the door was opened for history to repeat itself.
Here is a rant I made at another forum:-
=========================================
This is just as bad as the Fall of Saigon, probably worst.
The real last battle in the Vietnam War, there was real infantry fighting, artillery, and American bombing runs.
The battle of Xuân Lộc was a NVA offensive, and there was heavy resistance, but the south retreated anyways. Then they melted away, the NVA advanced and surrounded Saigon. The fall of Saigon, there was no battle, just surrender.
That according to the history books, were events on the battlefield over the course of roughly a month and a half in Vietnam.
This past month in Afghanistan, there are no major battles like the last battle of the Vietnam War. There are random firefights then indiscriminate bombing runs from the Americans.
Official Afghanistan resistance is melting away, they are simply running. That is how this Afghan War is coming to an end. The Taliban follows Sun Tzu, trying to win by not firing a shot. The Afghan government follows the 36-Tricks, the last trick where it says to run away is the best.
This is bizarre. The Americans actually fought in the Vietnam War. The Americans have no use for history.
I still remember Papa Bush saying after defeating Saddam Hussein forces with his coalition in the first Gulf War that America finally got rid of the stigma of Vietnam.
We cannot forget who started this Afghan War, a 20 year adventure with the exact same Vietnam War outcome, none other that Sonny Dubya Bush.
Things have definitely come full circle. The ironies of time and history.
