@KYli bro they been sand bagging, not reporting their Beijing FAB that is expected next year, being cautious is good but boy from now on even though having been sanction its trajectory and momentum is nowhere to go but up.
Huge profit jump aside, do they gather enough capital to R&D and expand productions?
I think this news would be better in China economics thread or to lesser extend technology thread.
A suggestion.
Between government investment and venture and IPO in Shanghai, I believe SMIC has more than enough capital for R&D and expanding facilities. The problem is still not able to get the latest EUV machines.
The profit and revenue growth of SMIC is phenomenal.
SMIC probably is the fastest growing major company in IC in the whole world.
Then there is still Huawei being the dominant supplier of telecom gear, the 5G leader, along with their enterprise computing with the servers. Along with the new 5G services. Huawei is still expanding aggressively.
Huawei and SMIC are two Chinese companies cut off from the American market, and American companies are cut off from them.
Since Huawei and SMIC are cut off from the American IC, and that Huawei and SMIC both are expanding aggressively, that in turned will eat away at the American firms market share and growth prospects.
We need reliable partners to do business. America will not recover their reputation inside China. That is why SMIC profits shooting up, China buys from China.
China consumes more semiconductors than the world combined in their factories. China IC market probably is the fastest growing in the world, because China is the fastest growing major economy in the world.
You cannot fake these numbers.
That is why I never understood the trade war and tech war.
All that could have done is derail China for a couple of quarters at most. An economy growing that fast at 5%-6% has it own momentum, and will continue along.

Racism is not only morally wrong, but it leads to stupid decisions. Many of their "thought leaders" and associated lackeys believed in their own propaganda that all Chinese can do is copy and that "intricate, sophisticated and innovative" products like semiconductor and semiconductor equipment were too advanced for simple Chin*man brains. They dismissed existing fabs, designers and equipment manufacturers as "politically motivated backwards sweatshops that would go belly up easily".
They really think that China is just another third world Southeast Asian military dictatorship, maybe a little bigger. All they need to do is shake their fists a little, raise their voices and cut off a few items, and corrupt El Presidente will come begging for their toys back.
Basically, they saw us a big Vietnam or Cambodia hence why the massive outrage whenever a Chinese entity overtakes them or does something first and the flurry of ineffectual media hit pieces. They are extremely frustrated not only on a political level but personally, viscerally, whenever China and Chinese succeed.
