If reported by "CNN Sports" in the "Sports section", yes, it's obviously sports or Olympics-related, and Everybody already knows Tokyo Olympics has rising COVID cases and mass-protests on cancelling the games even before the opening ceremony.

The usage of "...." suggests a separate story, not contiguous with the previous story. It's a "Live Update" CNN Sports story that often combines multiple stories into one.
I often complain about US media biases and double-standards, and I don't see how this is one example.

It's a "Live Update" which combines multiple-stories into one for brevity. Hence the "...." which is common for "Live Updates" for sports given how low people's attention spans are.
