The idiots would be gifting China a hell of perfect pretext to do Red Dawn for real.
The Australian military is frankly inconsequential in a fight between China and the US. If China wins in Taiwan despite direct US armed intervention, then that means the US Pacific fleet is gone, which leaves Australia wide open.
All those new carriers, 071s, 075s etc might be overkill for Taiwan and not much use against America, but they would be damn near perfect for an Australian campaign, launching from China’s SCS island bases. Hell, in the event of such an outcome, China may well suddenly find a flood of SEA nations lining up to host Chinese bases and invasion fleets, because as much as the western MSM loves to claim they all hate China, they hate Australia far far more.
I've always found the Australian government's attitude perplexing,
I mean let's say if you and the wife go to a restaurant for years and you always got good food and good service then one day, there's a change of ownership and while you are eating the manager just comes out and in front of the whole restaurant shouts at the top his voice 'you are a wife beater'

Then when you tell all your friends about it they decide not to go there, and the restaurant is losing business left right and centre he cries to the local paper about how his business is been ruined.

I think that's probably Australia in a nutshell, although still perplexing because they seem to have no problem selling their barley to Saudi Arabia that bastion of democracy and human rights, without saying a so much as a word....
