Do you think that the F-16XL could be resurrected? It is faster than the F-16A and has far greater multi role capabilities.

If this concept is real then it really is the F-16XL resurrected.

It's NOT real! It's a nice what-if created by "Hush-Kit (which) has brought experts together to design that potential F-16 replacement. The result: the F-36 Kingsnake lightweight fighter." Anway intersting

Yes, F-35 opinion is very variable, from boosters, bashers, and people in between.

Part of the important thing to consider is that the F-35 is an extremely major US fighter aircraft order, which is basically taking on every role in the US inventory. It will obviously attract bashers, simply because the F-35 got a virtual monopoly on USAF/USN fighter operations; it's a big target.
And the brother of the Zumwalt, Littoral Combat Ship, Ford and so on.

Should move that to concept art thread.
As a pure artist work it’s fine. As a fighter it has lots of why?
The F16XL cranked delta wing was done for a program looking for a strike fighter. That program ended in adopting the F15E. This was as it was determined to be the better option.
Twin stabilizers okay but that far out? I know the Russians did that on Mig144.
The DSI is fine.

Most of what General Brown talked about though was a Avionics. Basically he was saying “I want F35 type sensors, and missions systems on a F16 type platform.”
Even then it was a response to a loaded question on F16s based off a leak of a floated idea of capping F35 at just over a thousand and buying 600+ new build F16 from the export line. Using the F15EX buy as a blueprint. Much like the call by another General asking for Boeing E7.

Like Paris’s pillow talk that got Helena, this has then lead the launch of a a thousand yarns. As ink warriors and internet experts have taken up the call to pillage the Troy of F35.

I have no words

Guess they were lucky it was a gun pod and not the internal gun.

Investigation underway but first understand what seems to have happened. The Drive went a bit click bait with the title here. I want to make this delineation for a reason. At least once historically a US fighter did shoot itself. By that I mean it fired it’s guns than was hit later in the same flight by that fire.
the F11 Tiger ladies and gentlemen.

The F35B in question suffered from a 25mm shell detonating under the aircraft. It didn’t shoot it’s self but rather fragged itself. This likely has more to do with the round in question than the F35B. As modern fighters use a mix of automatic cannon ammunition including high explosive and air burst options this is a risk but normally a very low one. The ammunition in this case has a impact detonator.
