But in this case, I don't buy it, about this ancient history lesson.

This is still business, and it is still about win-win.

Maybe the Americans went nuts, and demanded everyone plays cowboys and Indians, and storm the parliament buildings.

They should have brought along some toilet paper if they asked me, but I guess there is a shortage.

So China must continue to depend on america for critical technologies which can be cut off at any time

Thanks for asking, but I feel I am not an expert, just someone without too many opinions.

That article I thought I was going to read as I saw it before you posted, but once I saw the author, I wanted to go to sleep instead. Tomorrow I will read, and go into the more economic reasons why he is right or more likely why he is wrong. Maybe somewhere in between. It will be another rant.

Schuman is not really an economics person IIRC, so he probably misunderstanding the policy or the economics, and he just pontificating a political-economy viewpoint (whereas for these people, the politics always comes first).

I notice lately there is a chorus of anti-China articles and opinions basically from the entire chattering class of America.

Gordon Chang is conducting the choir, there must be something brewing.

You're astute as ever bro, they both understand each other and know how to play the game, the Japanese always play lip service to American wishes but they always uphold their national interest, not banning Huawei is one and China not weaponizing the rare earth is another. They're neighbors and they do need each other.

If this was a country the west didn’t like, the western MSM would be fully of conspiracy theories about a military coup following a ‘disputed’ election and a president apparently being gagged and prevented from speaking to his citizens directly.

It does look very much like a colour revolution op direct from the CIA playbook. Only with American characteristics, where the ‘revolution’ was deliberately whipped up half baked, but allowed to create disturbing scenes to provide the justification for the deployment of military forces in the capital who are not loyal to the president.
