If 003 inherits shandong´s isle, and it seems that it will, i dont think that they will be much happy about it. That isle is huge, and takes a lot of real estate in the carrier.

It doesn't. It has a newly designed isle on its own. Its already been seen being tested as a mockup with actual equipment on, somewhere in Wuhan. Its more compact to start with, with four panel dual band AESA, possibly with two large panels on the side for ECM---these two techs are inherited from the 055---and a large mast with multiple small planar phase arrays on it, possibly a combination of ESM, IFF, and CEC. Its topped with an ESM stalk and TACAN, which also looks like a 055 part.




The new island mockup for 003 is built upon the previous mockup for 002. You can still see the bridge for 002 to the left, followed by the bridge for 003. That's a sizable chop of area.



The island is used with fan created CGI models of the ship, namely the island on a generic looking carrier.

It's a carrier.

People say lots of things. Part of trying to learn how to do PLA watching is to know whose words to take seriously and whose to ignore. In this case, there's no two ways about it, everyone whose opinions are worth anything say the ship under construction is the carrier 003.

You aren't going to get many more specific confident intervals than that

It seems that the Ford carrier has major problems with its innovative systems, including EMALS, the type that it is said, will be used by 003. This doesnt bode well for 003, IMO.

Not a new issue for the Ford class and its EMALS, in fact it's been ongoing.
Whether 003 and its EM cats will experience similar delays is an open question, but it isn't like the PRC or PLA leadership to choose an option that has high technical risk.


The fact that they deliberately opted to go back to choose between steam and EM catapults and ended up choosing the latter for 003 suggests that whatever else, they had significant confidence in their own solution and design.
It's okay, time will tell.
