If you're talking about the RWS on most of the mass produced Mengshis, they're not much better than the homemade ones seen in Syria
That's a pretty harsh judgement, but I do think they're pretty close to 'bottom of the pile', at least in capability. Either PLA planners just want a super basic RWS or they see the budget and pick super basic RWS based on the number they can buy.

You have to remember it’s not just monetary costs, but factors like reliability and logistics also comes into play.

Installing motors and gyro-stabilisers might be cool and high tech, but you also introduce possible sources of failure. In a real fight, do you want fancy Gucci gear that might fail, or basic stuff that is almost indestructible?

With motors, you also add power and fuel consumption and requirements, which cannot he ignored.

At the end of the day, having these is still massively better than what even the US military is operationally deployed with in war zones, which is to stick their heads out of hatched to man the manual machine guns.

, how's that for reliability :p

Good thing they thought to make it manually operable too at least! Too bad it has zero shielding and can't even traverse outside of a narrow range of motion facing towards the front of the vehicle when used that way...

Agree, they should've used this one. This one seems to be for export.

Xinhua reporter Zichen Wang writes that mechanization is basically accomplished and that the next step is intelligentization (智能化).

declared that the PLA has basically accomplished mechanization (通过长期努力,我军已经基本实现机械化).

The

states that the PLA should accelerate the integrated development of mechanization, informatization, and intelligentization (加快机械化信息化智能化融合发展).

Zichen speculates that intelligentization involves UAV's, UGV's, and UUV's - with particular emphasis paid to the Armenia-Azerbaijan war.

Based on these top-level documents, intelligentization is going to be important. What are the thoughts of people here on what "intelligentization" specifically involves?

Jesus I wonder why didn't they cut that part out of the video... (I bet Epoch Times and NTD are gonna have a field day on this...) it really concerns me that if other PLA weapons also suffer from these kind of quality issues...

I'm not sure if the part circled is an autoloader or not. Can anyone help identify it?
Very likely... it has some resemblance to the one on the PCL-181, specifically the circular pusher looking part just cut off in the image, minus the positioning arm... rather, in the image, the piece of metal extending from the right to left just next the circled part seems to be guide rail of some kind for positioning the device... so it highly likely to be an autoloader
