If the businesses themselves said nothing then they should be spared, sanction the politicians for human rights violations against natives

There is nothing unique about Australian imports to China each and everyone of it can be sourced from other countries, More importantly why should they give leniency when the other side doesn't show any and even proud of their tough stance, Chinese up until now put up with this childishness but instead of growing up Aussies saw it as a sign of weakness so this time it looks like Chinese leadership is determined to show who's the boss it's interesting that even now the Chinese are expected to suck it up the thought of Australia doing some minor concessions is not even crossing when people talk about solutions and that's not a coincidence it's Pavlov's dog in action

We're dealing with Nazis who will never change their mind.

We need to look long term, like when we free native Australians from the colonizers.

Then you stop dealing with them less drama and peace of mind

It won't happen the numbers just won't work out besides genocide as questionable as it is, is an integral part of our history it's just that Colonial european ones are so recent and the effects are still visible and felt today is what make it so controversial, We Homosapiens made both Neanderthals and Denisovans go extinct, Akkadian empire was responsible for the largest genocide and colonialism recorded in human history, Egyptian pyramids would not be a thing without Nubian Conquest, Genghis khan killed so many people even Earth cooled down a bit, We should be learning from the mistakes of the past, not repeat it.

China needs to make an example of Australia to warn other countries there are costs to poke China in the eye. She will not sit idly by while her interests are being damaged
If a country is really determined "to poke China in the eye" they will likely do it no matter what China say or do. China has made SK lotte exit china market after THAAD issue, that did not prevent Australia to ban Huawei. It is not "bad" to do import ban, but do not think that this will absolutely deter other countries.

Also, if a country is really determined "not to poke China in the eye" they will not do it no matter what US say or want.
