It's bonkers though. Even the US realized this and then went with the GCV program. Only to backpedal on it. It is simply a cost cutting exercise. If the Syrian conflict is any indication proxy wars are going to see a lot more proliferation of ATGMs. Lightly armored vehicles have no chance. The idea the conflicts are going to be police actions against firearms like it was in Iraq is nonsense IMHO.

Wheeled, medium brigades are good for a medium scale war against a conventional enemy, like India or Taiwan. These ones are the potential enemies faced by the PLA. The US has need for heavily armed IFV because they are fighting anti-insurgent, policing wars. Unless China's main enemy are guerilla insurgents, the medium brigades are very well rounded method of force projection.

To be fair, it remains to be seen if practical IFV can stand up even to light ATGMs at any reasonable combat weight.
Otherwise excessive weight can end up harming survivability and utility far too much.
P. s. and yeah, judging by us army track record, bradley will likely stay for a while :)

A 'new' 155mm tracked self-propelled howitzer is being tested. It came from a reliable leaker's Weibo account. I was literally about to download the leaked image when it was removed! Arrrrhhh. From what I saw, it features the same (or a very similar) turret from the PLZ-05, but the chassis has been upgraded.

Maybe it's because they want a more stable platform that won't rock around so much every time it open fire? Though I think the same objective can be achieved through improved recoil system.

Does PLA have a new universal tracked platform kind of like russia's armata? It seems like it would be a pain in the ass to maintain so many different track designs like the zbd-04a, zbd-05, zbd-03, HQ-17, type 15 tank, plz-05, phz-11, phz-89

Even "Armata" isn't all that universal. The Russians are going to have the Kurganets vehicle as well and the T-90M isn't going to stop production anytime soon. The Russians are still buying new BMP-3 vehicles and upgrading existing vehicles to T-72B3M and T-80BVM standards. The Koalitsiya-SV still isn't available on Armata if ever.

Armata so far is going to be T-14 (tank), T-15 (IFV), T-16 (engineering). There were supposedly plans to use it as an artillery platform but it never happened. Armata is going to be a breakthrough armor type but I doubt it will equip the whole army.

I do think the Chinese could use a new MBT chassis and that the ZBD is kinda weak. But to be honest the main concern for heavy tanks would be against Russia in the north and currently that is a least concern. That is probably why the Type 15 came out quickly yet we see endless respins of the Type 96 instead of a whole new tank. I think the Chinese would probably be better off with something like the Japanese Type 10 tank, a lighter tank with a short 120mm gun they can use basically anywhere instead of a Type 15 with a weak 105mm rifled gun and obsolete larger chassis with 125mm guns.
