Huawei is currently struggling to keep its

business afloat as the Chinese giant has been heavily restricted by the sanctions from the United States from procuring or manufacturing necessary components.

But it seems that there is some hope for the company. Forrest Norrod, Senior Vice President at AMD

that the company has been granted a license to sell its products to some of the companies in the US Entity List.

The licenses secured by the company ensures that there won’t be a significant impact on the business at this time because of the China-focused

. He also added that the company is complying with all the rules and regulations.

However, it’s noteworthy that Forrest Norrod hasn’t revealed the names of the companies for which

has been granted licenses to carry on doing business. So, we are not sure if the Chinese giant Huawei is in it

Even if there’s no license for Huawei right now, his statement shed light on the fact that the United States is giving out licenses to companies for doing business with those firms that are in the Entity List. So, sooner or later, licenses can be granted to companies for doing business with Huawei.

Many companies have started lobbying with the United States government to reconsider some of the restrictions placed on Huawei, arguing that it impacts American businesses, both in terms of innovation and finance.

I don't think Trump will allow AMD to sell Huawei unless the financial damage to AMD and Qualcomm is too large to ignore. Actually I don't think he'll allow it even if there is huge economical damage before the election. After the election, should he win, he might relent and then boast of the "biggest telecom deal ever" or something like that if he is in a good mood.

Behind these headline numbers also are deeper industrial trends, which again work in China’s favor, helping it pick up global market share in the aftermath of Covid-19 lockdowns. Increasingly, China is supplying the kind of sophisticated machinery that German manufacturers once dominated, like high-end tunnel borers and hydraulic valves and pumps used in wind turbines.

“It’s only a matter of time

,” says Ulrich Ackermann, managing director for foreign trade at Germany’s VDMA Mechanical Engineering Industry Association.

See the thing is, and I don't think enough people are realising this: pandemic prevention is war, economy is war.

People keep looking out for when a hot war would happen and calculating what assets each side have and how likely each will win. Fact of the matter is US is stronger militarily, even if it has trouble putting all that strength to work against China. CCP understands this only too well so they're fighting US in other areas.

Pandemic prevention is a people's war that needs mobilisation of the whole population, and no one is better at this than China seeing as Mao was the person who wrote the damn book on People's War. So little surprise that China won. It's a bit of a surprise that US lost this war so totally but oh well, as Trump would say that's life. Post COVID-19 economic recovery is going to be another war and China is already ahead thanks to their outstanding performance against the virus. And vaccine development is going to be another war and China seems to be more or less leading there too.

You are supposed to avoid the enemy where he's strong and strike where he's weak, it's one of the fundamental teachings in Art of War. And in this day and age silver bullets are just as good as lead bullets.

Accelerate to finish the SMEE/CIOMP EUVL prototype in 2021?
Yes.....it looks like the CAS will be aiming to get the EUV Machine out as soon as possible. They are making the EUV machine a National priority project.

The Changchun Institute of Optics which developed the original EUV machine in 2017 is part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, so we will see more news from this Organisation.

If combined with the SSA-800 DUVL machine, and the Naura/Piotech 5-7nm vapor deposition equipment (if it's available soon enough), SMIC could set up an entirely domestic production line if they so choose.

American Hegemony, not American core interest, is under threat.

Hegemony =/= Way of Life, Core Values, Freedom

People often mistook them since US has been in the hegemony position for so long.

The entire theme of actions for the US Gov is very very simple. And it is revealed by Carter :

On Sunday, Carter, who established formal diplomatic relations with China as president in 1979, told a Sunday school in his native Georgia about their conversation.
“The main thing that he emphasised to me was, the main purpose of his call, was to say very frankly to me on a private line that the Chinese were getting way ahead of the United States,” he said.

"China's plan for the development of semiconductors does not mean a complete homegrown replacement. Rather, it only wants to create a more controlled supply chain in an open environment in case foreign technology is completely cut off. The US does not represent the whole world. China's huge market provides opportunities for companies from all over the world to innovate and compete. China will surely create brighter starlight in the sky, a trend the US cannot reverse.

I am not optimistic. SMIC and all these other useless chip design companies still worship foreign equipment, etc. It will only take them getting sanctioned to make domestic equipment a necessity. I say sanction them all, thin out the herd. Only those companies who work hand in hand with domestic equipment makers will survive. Yes CHina maybe stuck at 14nm but when it will be much more sustainable when China catches up.

SMIC will never use domestic equipment unless it is forced to do so or be shut down. They would rather get on their knees and beg Trump then even give domestic equipment a try.

These are very childish and emotional rants. We have too many of these in this thread. Please calm down. If you don't have anything meaningful to say or share, better to keep quiet.

It's not a rant. If you know anything about how Chinese people think, anything imported is automatically better than domestic products, doesnt matter if it's clothing, cars, electronics, chocolate, lithography machines, whatever. Why do you think Chinese people think that the same product bought overseas is better than buying it in China. That's why SMIC deserves to be sanctioned, I am sure that they will either figure out a way to continue producing 14nm chips by replacing equipment with domestic ones. Or another company will.

If they don't get sanctioned they will happily go down the route of shitting on domestic equipment makers and importing American equipment. So they can brag about 7nm or what ever to get more subsidies. THen they will get sanctioned and China will be back to square one with nothing. Might as well get sanctioned now so, domestic equipment makers have a chance of being utilized by SMIC.
