Suggestion: Whitelist

Basically any one you disagree with is ignored? All members have an Ignore option it’s up to you to choose to use it at your discretion. However just to list a Member in general to Ignore is exactly the kind of action that stands against the whole purpose of a forum.

That's not true at all. There are certain members who keep creating alt accounts even after being banned multiple times. The ignore function is useless against that, and the mods obviously don't have enough time to keep banning them. A whitelist would be quite useful to keep the trolls and spammers from ruining the forum.

If you don't want to use it, then you don't have to. It's just an additional tool to keep members engaged.

We already have a Ban function for those idiots who insist on trying again and again. A Whitelist wouldn’t do jack against them as once you have figured out whom they are the Moderators have to and are already working on a ban.

In addition to having an "ignored members" blacklist, I think SDF should allow users to have a whitelist where everyone not on the whitelist is ignored.

Why would you want that? SDF is a public forum where people with different viewpoints can discuss issues. If you automatically block everyone apart from a select group of people, you're not just blocking yourself off from diverse voices, you'll also be forever banning new members because you'll never see what they have to say and judge if you want to read their posts.

What you're doing is suggesting an option to turn SDF into a private chatroom. If you want that, I would suggest setting up a private forum, discord or whatsapp group that's invitation only.

I think if a user had an option to "whitelist" other people I think that could be a way to go about it, but there would need to be a way in which people are able to recognize that you are replying to someone that has whitelisted you so you know you're not just wasting your time.

I do see both sides of the argument; on the one hand it is good to be able to have open discussion from a lot of new and different people and new and different ideas -- but on the other hand, an influx of new members sometimes brings the quality of discussion down and there are also longer standing members here whose contributions might be considered by some to be average at best or non-constructive at worst.

That said the logistical changes and changes in day to day posting patterns would be so different that it may not be worth it.

Well, whether it's a white list or a blacklist/ignore function, knowing that you've been placed on one when you're replying to someone is probably beneficial to know you're not wasting your time.

Wouldn't someone realize they have been ignored after quoting the specific user multiple times and not receiving an answer? I don't feel such a function is necessary when only several attempts are needed to see if you have been blocked or not.

Awful idea. If you want a chatroom with a lot of echo, go back to reddit and the /sino/ sub I embarrassingly know you "mod". Leave this place be. I like to hear dissenting opinions and views from actual experts not you and your irk. It's almost as bad as the superpower 2020 folks
