Hong-Kong Protests

Someone here is a bit butt hurt that one of his hero's have been taken in. Claiming:

On what law can China confiscate his asset? Why should China's treatment of its criminals be the same as the USA, especially when we complaint so much about USA?

Such delusional thinking!

First China's national security law is all embracing. Why shouldn't China seized his illgotten assets? In any case this is a mute point, don't you think people like him would have hidden his liquid illgoten gains off shore somewhere. But on a matter principle, China should definately seized his houses in Hong Kong.

On the second point, and here I feel he's understanding about most of us here is wrong. Most of us here lives in the USA, UK, canada and Oz etc. The five eyes! When we criticise the West is usually because of their policy and actions against China. Not because of their law and order. (Although there are rooms for improvement just as it is in China). Particularly recently when we saw what happened in the USA, and thinks this is what hyprocracy looks like.

@plawolf

Wolfie got a good point regarding treason. Technically he is a Canadian citizen. So I'm wondering if Trudeau will stick his neck out again for this traitor (in my mind he's still a traitor. Yes born in China, and he illicit foreigners to change China/Hong Kong whilst still living in China/Hong kong)!

On confiscation of private assets, one should look up Civil Forfeiture laws in the US if one wants to see truly egregious ways for the state to seize private property.

It’s literally legalised highway robbery as even if your assets were seized wrongly, in most cases it’s not worth you going to court to recover your lost assets as it will end up costing you more in court fees and lawyer fees to try.

There is zero doubt that if someone was convicted of acting as a foreign agent in the US, the American government will take every last cent it could find that is yours, and will probably also clean out the bank accounts and assets of all your family and business partners.

It's so embarassing to be an HKer. Not all of us are treasonous trash, I hope our mainland brothers can understand.
My wife is Shanghaiese and I've been defending China on interwebs for half my life...

China has been too tolerant of Apple Daily, Jimmy Lai, and Wong Chi Fung collusion with foreign powers. Now HK suffers from treasonous idiots indoctrinated by foreigners, goddamnit.

My dream is Joshua Wong getting jailed for long time, that would be great.

Interesting thing I noticed about Jimmy Lai and Apple daily in general is that it is not liberal at all. Its pro-trump and right wing!!

You would think that they are supposedly asking for more "democracy" that they will be liberal in their worldview. But that is not the case. Jimmy Lai and many Apple daily staff like Mark Simon are heavily Pro-Trump, right-wing and sometimes white-supremacist.

I have noticed this trend in the Hong Kong protest that they have become not only xenophobic about mainland Chinese, but also highly reverent towards white supremacist parties in the West. In fact, it is these parties that are in turn the biggest supporters of Hong Kong protest. You don't find liberals in the west supporting Hong Kong protest that heavily.

All the main advocates of Hong Kong protest in Twitter that also live in Hong Kong are also right-wing. People like Antony Dapiran, Hong Kong Hermit.

Its like the anti-China crowd across the globe is now right-wing pro-Trump. The liberals now have a much more positive view of China and the achievements they have made. They are more likely to call for more engagement with China and more hopeful that it is slowly becoming more liberal and rights of ordinary people are expanding.

Why would you want to copy a country that (presumably) you don't agree with? I frequently see "but whatabout the US" on this forum, when I struggle to see anyone say that the US is great.

Surely it's better to do the right thing and use the law in a fair way to prosecute actual crimes whilst preserving the presumption of innocence, as opposed to twisting legislation to convict people you simply don't like.

Trudeau and Canada won't care.
Jimmy Lai is not white.

"Two Michaels" and that white drug dealer are always in the news.

Two ethnic Chinese-Canadians sentenced to death, barely got a mention.

.

Not to say I care about drug smugglers, but this is what's happening

Also wanted to add:
I think that most overseas Chinese want to see China succeed. The argument is not whether China can do better (of course they can, all people/countries can). The issue I think most of us have is that the rules are made up for China as they go along (ironically). Even if Xi Jinping was elected in open vote with 99% popular support, they would still call him illegitimate (like Putin).

I am very sure they be doing forensic search on the money trails of Joshua Wong and Jimmy Lai and Agnes Chow and other key instigators of the burnings and riotings done in Hong Kong . And that woman who got shot in the eye by the thugs she hired to riot and burn and destroy. Where did the money that she used to financed her paid rioters came from?

To see where the fundings came from and where that lead to and the entire network of traitors and the NEDs that paid for them be thoroughly exposed and justice done.

China was not stupid in not acting sooner. China see things in long term.

China was giving them long long rope to hang themselves as well as to drag in and hang all their financers and associates and pseudo reporters.

May the rot all taken out and cauterized .

Why do I think of that nice chinese proverb ?
