And then there is the matter of peak resources (Peak Oil and peak everything else for that matter) the never did beset during previous periods of nations and empires that came and went... and things like climate change and environment disaster, death/extinction of species and the collapse of ecosystems, food chain, etc was never manifested to anywhere near this degree until the last half a century... this also adds a layer of complexity to the calculus when analysis the current trends and winds of macroeconomics/ geopolitics etc...

I believe one example of peak resources could be lumber in Great Britain during the nineteenth century with their need for building more ships for their naval empire. That definitely affected ecosystems of course with basically a collapse in the variety of wildlife in the country.

A natural gas storage facility exploded Wednesday in Mont Belvieu after a contractor struck an underground pipeline, officials said.

The explosion sparked a large fire around 5 p.m. in the Lone Star NGL facility at 506 W. Winfree St. Firefighters were still working to suppress the flames as of 8 p.m. Wednesday night. The fire had dwindled significantly, and officials expected the fire to burn itself out overnight, according to a Facebook post from the city.

A 2016 Houston Chronicle investigation found there is a major chemical incident every six weeks in the Houston area.

With all incoming disasters happening in the USA right now, it might be just a Pyrrhic victory that ultimately means little since it shows that the USA as a whole cannot innovate without playing dirty
No. It’s highly symbolic. Tick Tok is one of the first major Chinese apps to gain global popularity. And it’s forced to be sold or banned.

This is not capitalism. This is a thuggish move by Trump and China Hawks. The fact that Bytedance is even entertaining this idea is a shame.

It's up to the owner/Bytedance what they want to do. TikTok is still a huge company even with it banned in the US and India. I agree that America is getting more underhanded as it gets more desperate but the US government controls the US. If they don't want your app in there, then that's their call and you can either ban US apps in China in retaliation (done) or sell the thing for profit perhaps planning that Chinese citizens will jump ship onto a new Chinese platform. I don't use these things and symbolically, I prefer TikTok to stay Chinese but if they've got better plans and it doesn't make financial sense to keep it, that's up to Bytedance. I don't like it but this is one of the less ugly/dirty moves that the US has done recently.
