Another example of pushing the political angle over fighting the disease.

Credit democracy and transparency

So tired of these articles. 4 places that have the outbreak as under control as possible are considered PRC, ROK, SG, and ROC.

2 are basically one-party states, 2 are parliamentary democracies. What they have in common in their approaches are a heavy handed surveillance apparatus that includes a good dose of CCTV, phone based tracking using GPS, NFC, and payment tracing, and publicly funded healthcare... but instead of going with the common denominators, lets credit governance models!

Whoever said that those in power (and not talking about just Trump, but anyone in those high echelons) are killing us with their narrative.

Cold and flu season is however winding down as the temperatures rise the population shifts from continuously reexposing themselves to each other in enclosed space to more open space activities. With reduced contact. That will shift the worries of Convid 19 to the Southern Hemisphere.
the US infection rate is probably at or nearing its peak.

The above was posted on March 11th, when the US had 1286 confirmed infections and 8 deaths.

Today, on March 19, a mere week after that post, the US has 14,000 confirmed infections and over 200 deaths.

Worse yet, the exponential growth for both confirmed infections and deaths are only starting:

No one knows how high it will go before it curves off.

Please do not dismiss the seriousness of this outbreak. Stay home and stay safe!

What is china’s hospital ship doing ? Shouldn’t it be going around the world treating people of poor nations? This is the perfect time to help poor nations and get some good will in return.

Hospital ship, usually operated by the armed service of a country, are equipped to handle trauma injury and other illness but not infectious disease like Ebola or Covid-19. The US Navy hospital ship being sent to New York City is only there to offload non-infectious intensive care cases from New York City hospitals so that they can concentrate on treating Covid-19 patients.

Question: Did China under report it deaths from COVID-19?
Hard to believe that 80K+ cases and only 3,248 deaths. While Italy with half the number of cases has already surpassed China's number in deaths.

Two relevant things currently running in the social media right now-

1. In China more people died because of covid-19. No way there can be lower death rate compared to other countries.

2. China has an 'antidote' that they are not sharing with others.

The demand that China made accountable is getting 'stronger' in some circles as well.

Your thoughts?

for 1, it does not matter the exact numbers,They are currently reporting 0 domestically created new cases in Wuhan, and only a few thousand still in the hospital. Such a dramatic drop can not be faked. There are enough people inside China still having connection to the world and there would be information that things are not well. WHO staff was all over China. They did not say these numbers are fake.

for 2, that is just plain bullshit. WHO staffs all over the impacted area would know what was tried.

I also see the demand to make China accountable in the media. If the U.S. was not made accountable for the H1N1 and the Spanish flu (it actually started from a U.S. military camp), I don't see how China could be made accountable for act of God. Looking for someone to blame is human nature, but it is not helpful in this human crisis. If your son brought the flu from school, do you make him accountable for infecting the family?

#1 is from people who are in the denial stage.

#2 is from people in the bargaining stage.

The demand for China to be "accountable" are from people in the anger stage.

I agree with #1. Having accurate numbers helps in modeling and understanding how the virus affects the general demographic and of course the general severity of this virus.

#2 is conspiracy nonsense

#3 Call for China to be held accountable will grow if this causes severe economic recession around the world and in the west. If anything the Chinese govt. need to permanently ban their wild markets and at least be more transparent on health issues.

I do think that because of (probable) political reasons some countries will try to extract concessions from China. I am not certain about the outcome though.
