I don't know about "greed", but I guess the budget of many governments all around the world relies on tobacco tax as a sure, predictable income -- it's ironic a government would run into trouble if its anti-smoking campaign became successful, oops

OK the cynical part (hope I won't get suspended again, LOL!) is it's advantageous for a government if a guy at sixty-something went six feet under -- he'd been paying for smoke, in addition of course to his retirement fund, now gone

It just struck me that most of you guys here are detached from this corona virus . Unless you staying in hot zone like Wuhan.
Or in secondary hot zone like Singapore where I am in. And you do not cringe when folks sneezed and wheezed about near you.

Corona virus is not just about plotting of numbers in detached fashion, not when you in hot zone.
Just to give you folks a taste.

In the rest of China its seems that the infection rates are going down while recovery rates are going up. Except in Wuhan there the situation continues to escalate. Wuhan is responsible for more than 75% of all deaths. Is there a reason ? What makes Wuhan special ? I know its the epicenter but shouldn't things improve there as well.

Well it is easy because Wuhan hospital are overwhelm with patient sick or not And they become the hot bed of infection The hospital that is That is why building hospital is number 1 priority so the sick can be isolated and infected but no symptom can be isolated. Reducing the spread of the disease.
Give it couple more week the epidemic will burned out naturally.
The mortality rate is low outside Wuhan something like 0.2 % @ 2:00 VS influenza mor of 0.1%

I honestly dont think there will be much negative impact in the end.

This event will force Chinese to be more keen on hygiene practices and reduce bush meat consumption. People will learn to quarantine themselves from sick people. There will be more peer pressure on the sick to stay at home or wear a mask.

Its much more effective than some regulations. I’m willing to bet the total number of deaths for this flu and cold season will drop as a result of the mass hysteria.
