He used to work in the Coast Guard. He should know many naval friends. He has been in military forums for many years. He is the moderator of many forums. He has provided military fans with many photos of weapons being developed in China. Most of them are official Undisclosed.

So it seems he has a certain value, respect and credibility?!

Thanks a lot for your replies, explanations and posts ... highly appreciated

He has recently been banned from posting information on Weibo, and many of these insiders have been canceled accounts by Weibo because they disclosed some information.

Item 1) is not mentioned, not even close to how @Just4Fun phrased it. The context here is important. The so-called expert in the video compares Liaoning and Shandong, saying that even though the two carriers are outwardly very similar, there are internal and technological differences. He went on to say that conventional power broadly includes boilers, turbines, and electric drives. He 'thinks' Shandong has a 'new' conventional propulsion system compared to the Soviet-era Liaoning. Well you don't say!

Item 2) again is not mentioned. The word catapult does not appear once in the video, nor was it ever implied. Again, the expert mentioned that the service life of a carrier could be up to 50 - 60 years, enough for two generations of carrier fighters. Therefore, the expert speculates that Shandong contains design provisions to accomodate the next generation of carrier fighters. I have no idea how @Just4Fun could have made such a wild leap from something so innocuous. Actually, I know the answer: a rabid fanboy's wildly delusional wishful-thinking could well lead him to hear and see things that are not there.

Again, Sinodefence Forum is not a fanboy website. There are many internet forums for that purpose. This is not one of them.

1) Electrical propulsion. Strongly suggested. The speaker did touch the words of "electrical propulsion", but this is not the point. What makes sense is the way he delivered his massage. The exact words the speaker used are 002 "probably uses a NEW power system." Since 002 burns conventional fuel to generate power, which is common to all nonnuclear powered ships regardless how fuel burns and how power is generated, thus, we know what the speaker said "new" is not at the end of power generation, but at the end of power consumption. If you still use a long steel shaft to transmit mechanic energy to the propellers, your system is not "new" because most conventionally powered ships do so. But if you use a power cable to pass the energy to the propellers, your system certainly is "new" since most of conventionally powered warships can't do it. I think the speaker has made his case pretty transparent without directly stating electricity spins the propellers.

2) Catapult conversion potential. It's obvious. The speaker mentioned "cabins and hangars under the deck". And he mentioned 002's possibility to house PLAN's next gen fighters. If you still can't figure out what he hinted, log your complaint against the speaker at CCTV, please.

3) Chinese is a beautiful language. But it may be too much for some visitors to the Sinodefence Forum website. Too sad.

Surprise name. I was thinking they would name it Hainan 海南.

Unfortunately everything I hear 'Hunan' I think of Hunan chicken which is my favorite chicken dish in the world.

Very interesting, indeed. Very unexpected...

I think it makes some sense. In addition to the fact that many CCP leaders are from the province of Hunan, as mentioned below:

Many of the founding fathers of China, including Mao Zedong, were from Hunan, and Xiao Jinguang肖劲光,the first PLAN commander, was from Hunan.

For the past 200 years, the Hunan people have been famous for being highly ferocious warriors, hence the notorious phrase 无湘不成军 (translation: you cannot call it a true military unless you have soldiers from Hunan). So in that sense, the province of Hunan has contributed significantly to the shaping of modern China, thus deserved to be recognized by the PLAN.

Anyways, it's a surprising choice to me...

Unfortunately everything I hear 'Hunan' I think of Hunan chicken which is my favorite chicken dish in the world.

You should try some authentic Hunan dishes at a local China town. I LOVE Hunan dishes, which have been known to be very spicy.

Chinese is indeed a beautiful language, but it's not a fanboy language. Fanboy behavior is indeed too much for Sinodefence. May I suggest that you go somewhere else?

... and I nearly got a heart-attack ...
In an other forum you told that you had contact with persons who know the penant number of 002 but are not allowed to tell until the end of press blocking period. So I think, you already knows the number, too :).

No - and sorry if that post was misleading - I said, HE knows the number but HE is not allowed to tell it ... all my supplication and begging have brought nothing. He didn't tell me anything. :(

You probably know how I feel since some days ...
