So...has there been any failure so far ? I think the DF-41 has had no failures till now. This weapon is getting so reliable and that bolsters the ditterence.

A fun fact:
2003 edition of Chinese nuclear forces by the Bulletin of atomic scientists estimated Chinese nuke arsenal to be:
20 warheads for ICBMs
112 warheads for IRBMs and MRBMs
130 warheads for freefall bombs/aircraft delivery
120 warheads for tactical means (artillery/SRBMs)
And claimed a total of 400 (leaving 18 unaccounted for)

2006 edition of the same had:
20 warheads for ICBMs
71 warheads for IRBMs and MRBMs
40 warheads for freefall bombs/aircraft delivery
70 warheads stored (not described what kind)
And a claimed total of 200

2010 edition of the same had:
77 warheads for ICBMs
106 warheads IRBMs and MRBMs
40 warheads for freefall bombs/cruise missiles/aircraft delivery
65 warheads stored (not described what kind)
And a claimed total of 240

Let's skip to 2019 edition:
142 warheads for ICBMs
124 warheads for IRBMs and MRBMs
20 warheads for freefall bombs/cruise missiles/aircraft delivery
And a claimed total of 290

So... yeah. Anyone can make up their own list.

Federation of American Scientists seem to be an agency with some agendas. They vouch for nuclear disarmament. Although I cannot find reliable counter claims, I'd take any calculations and numbers put out by such an establishment as flawed and prone to, at-least in theory, regulation in view of their stated agenda. A big Chinese stockpile runs afoul of their disarmament dreams.

600 nuclear warheads

It's the first authoritative estimate of the Chinese nuclear arsenal that I've seen in a long while.

After reading Economist near opening sentence of " China is a military behemoth, but a nuclear minnow. It accounts for well over half the increase in global defence spending since 1990, but its nuclear stockpile is just 2% of the world’s total, with a paltry 290 bombs " I decided unilaterally that writer knows close to nothing but regurgitations of regurgitations of others regurgitations.

I certainly not going to sign up and subscribe to Economist to read more of their interpretations of other wiid guesses.

Just my not so humble opinion.

China and Russians are developing new warheads as reported back in 2013 (page 5).

What kinda warhead people here think China is developing? Russia is testing new earth penetrating "bunker buster" warhead but I doubt China is going that route.
