They have to enough capacity to build the type 071 for Thailand at the same time. The situation calls for immediate build out of 8 type 075 ships. They new design will be included in the next batch. The first type 71 ships were build at a slow rate. But now they realized they need to speed up the building of the more versatile type 075 ships to cope with rising foreign adversaries.

Why the rush? Do you foresee a conflict in a decade or something? And besides what PLAN need to speed up on are more attack SSN & SSK subs. Most of these ships in PLAN inventory are vulnerable to credible US, Japan sub forces.

The main focus for these LHD should be ASW, but I'm sure it is. Expeditionary should be second afterwards

The beam of 075, as one can see, is quite a bit wider than previously estimated(30m) and both Wasp(31.8m) and America(32m) class as the latter are limited by Panamax standards.

Total usable flight deck area seems to be in close comparison to the US LHD considering the 075 island is quite petite but the lifts hinder quite a bit of area.
